Pacific Beach Cleanup

Our next beach clean is on Saturday, September 11, 2010. We will be meeting to clean Pacific Beach at 10am at 704 Garnet (where it ends at Crystal Pier) by Kono's on the north side of the pier. The event will last 3 hours. Please remember to BYOB (bring your own bag to collect trash)!

Disney isn't giving away any more free passes. However, you're still welcome to come and help. If you need community service hours or just want to volunteer, you can make a difference by cleaning our beach with us!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will t-shirts be sold at the event? - No, sorry. We are all out of shirts and won't be printing any more.

2. How old do I have to be? - All ages are welcome!

3. Can my friends come if they aren't signed up? - Yes. Everyone is welcome!

4. How do I get my free Disneyland pass? - Disney is not giving away any more passes. Sorry.

5. When are the passes good for? - The Disneyland passes will be good through December 15, 2010.

6. Where should I park? - There is a little street parking nearby. You may need to park either on the street or in the residential area a couple of blocks away. Please arrange to get there a little early in order to find parking.

7. Will the event be canceled if it rains? - No. We'll be there rain or shine! Just ask the Feb. 27 group!

8. Is September 11, 2010 the only possible date for this event or will there be others like it? - Right now, September 11 is our last scheduled cleanup.

9. I think I'm registered. How can I tell for sure? - There is no registration for this event. Please simply show up! We will email everyone who contacts us and shows interest at least once before the event.

10. I'd like to make a donation to your non-profit organization. How can I do that? - Please click here. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you!

11. Do you have anything Disney on your web site? - Yes! We have 900 Disney character coloring pages you can freely print and color right here!

12. Even though Disney won't give them free passes, can kids under 6 years old come? - Yes.

13. Will we get gloves and bags? - Please bring everything you need to pick up trash. Some people are bringing gloves. We will try to have a few extra bags from a local grocery store handy just in case someone forgot to bring theirs. Please tie your trash bags and dispose of them appropriately.

14. How will the groups be organized? - The volunteers will be broken up into 4 groups. 2 groups (1 on the beach and 1 on the street) will walk north to Tourmaline and back. The other 2 groups will walk south to PB Drive and back. Volunteers should have plenty of time to do both routes. You can walk on the beach for part of the time, but most of the trash is in between the beach and the 1 block before Mission Blvd. That trash just blows into the beach and ocean, so it's important we gather that trash.

15. How many people came to your last beach cleanup? - On February 27, we had 640 volunteers show up and on March 13 we had 611 volunteers come. On April 10, about 272 volunteers helped. Our May 1 event had approximately 150 volunteers and we expect a similar number for our September 11 event. Thanks to everyone who helped (and will help) clean PB!

16. Will you sign off on my slip for school, work or court? - Yes. Please fill it out (e.g. write the event name, organization name and anything else your form requires) and ask me to sign it on Saturday.

17. Are any restaurants offering discounts to volunteers? - Yes! The Pacific Bean is offering $1 coffee and tea, 710 Beach Club is discounting domestic drafts to $3 and Sweet and Savory is giving us a 2 for 1 entree deal. Unfortunately, Kono's has been unhelpful and uncooperative with our beach cleanups, so we don't recommend going there. I guess they get enough business and we just get in the way! Ha!

18. I have a local business in Pacific Beach. Can I offer your volunteers a discount? - Yes! Please contact us with the details. Thank you.

19. Besides beach cleanups, do you have any other volunteer work available? - Yes. We have a lot of computer work (e.g. data entry, web site maintenance, internet work, etc.) available. Please contact us for details.

If you have more questions, please either email us.
