It's interesting why the Bible has things in it. We know it's right and from God. Understanding why things are in it can be a challenge.

There are probably many reasons why homosexuality is a sin. Here are a couple that I have realized and noticed. God has a perfect equation for husbands and wives. The wife is to submit to the husband and he is to love her like Christ loves the church. When this happens, things are wonderful. When it doesn't, the couple has problems.

When there are two husbands or two wives (like "life partners"), this equation isn't working for obvious reasons. Therefore, the partners don't have a chance to grow spiritually in their roles. They are not being obedient to God, too. They're missing blessings.

Sex is something that is reserved for marriage. Many people have sinned in this area. Sex isn't something for recreation, but something for procreation (having kids). I know that not all gay people are totally into sex, but lusting after the same sex and having sex before marriage are both wrong.

Finally, God has given believers in Christ the Holy Spirit. With God's Spirit, we can overcome or avoid ANY SIN. Some people say they are "born gay" and can't help it. There is a possibility that a person could be born with a tendency to become gay, but God has given everyone a way to be obedient to Him.

Praise God that He has given us the power to overcome! He accepts us where we are, but He refuses to leave us that way. He will continue to work on us until we die and see Him, face to face!

Important Steps for Overcoming Gay Urges

In order to leave the homosexual lifestyle, it's important to know and do a couple things. You have to realize and admit that homosexuality is a sin. Please read the scriptures below.

Next, it's important to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Confess your sins to God and believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead. He will save you and you will be Heavenbound.

After you do those two things, you're in very good shape. God will hear your prayers. He will be faithful to you. You will be on the road to recovery and healing.

Pray daily. Ask God to purify your heart and motives. Read God's Word and worship Him in song, daily.
If you do all of the above, your gay urges will go away. You won't have any homosexual experiences. God will heal you, protect you and prosper you.

Here are some scriptures that will help. I got my words from them.

Romans 1:26-29 "For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers"

1 Corinthians 6:9  "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites."

Leviticus 18:22  "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination."

Genesis 13:13  "But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD."

Genesis 19:4-11  "Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.' So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, and said, 'Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.' And they said, 'Stand back!' Then they said, 'This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.' So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door."

1 Timothy 1:8-10  "But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine."

Jude 1:6 and 7  "And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

Ephesians 5:22-25 "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her"

1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Philippians 1:6 "Be confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ"
