Some people say that it is ok to lie in certain situations. Some of these same people try and use God's Word to prove that it is ok to lie. Here are some Old Testament and New Testament scriptures that clearly condemn lying.

Leviticus 19:11 "Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another."

Psalm 5:6 "You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors."

Proverb 12:22 "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful."

Proverb 21:6 "A fortune made by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare."

John 14:6 "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father but through Me."

Ephesians 5:6 "Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient."

Colossians 3:9-10 "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

1 Timothy 1:9-11 "We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me."

1 Timothy 4:1-2 "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron."

1 John 2:22 "Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son."

Revelation 21:8 "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

It has been said that lies make people dumber, so remember that and these verses next time you want to tell one. God will bless you and reward your good deeds.
