The recurrence of seven - or an exact multiple of seven - is found throughout the Bible and is widely recognized. The frequent occurrence of the number seven is conspicuous even to a casual reader.

1) The name of the church (each of which turns out to be significant; 2) A title of Jesus, specifically selected to fit the theme of each letter; 3) A commendation: the good news; 4) A criticism: the bad news; 5) An exhortation for correction; 6) A parenthetical control phrase: "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches"; 7) A special promise to the overcomer. |
