Chapter 3

And I said,⁴ Hear,³ I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; [Is it] not for you to know² judgment?

Who hate⁶ the good, and love⁶ the evil; who pluck off⁶ their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

Who also eat¹ the flesh of my people, and flay⁵² their skin from off them; and they break¹⁴ their bones, and chop them in pieces,¹ as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

Then shall they cry⁴ unto the LORD, but he will not hear⁴ them: he will even hide⁵⁵ his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill⁵² in their doings.

Thus saith¹ the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err,⁵⁶ that bite⁶ with their teeth, and cry,¹ Peace; and he that putteth⁴ not into their mouths, they even prepare¹⁴ war against him.

Therefore night [shall be] unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark^{1 2821} unto you, that ye shall not divine;² and the sun shall go down¹ over the prophets, and the day shall be dark¹ over them.

Then shall the seers be ashamed,¹ and the diviners⁶ confounded:¹ yea, they shall all cover¹ their lips; for [there is] no answer of God.

But truly I am full¹ of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare⁵³ unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

Hear³ this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor¹⁸ judgment, and pervert¹⁷ all equity.

They build up⁶ Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.

The heads thereof judge⁴ for reward, and the priests thereof teach⁵⁵ for hire, and the prophets thereof divine⁴ for money: yet will they lean¹¹ upon the LORD, and say,² [Is] not the LORD among us? none evil can come⁴ upon us.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed¹¹ [as] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
