Chapter 60

Arise,³ shine;³ for thy light is come,¹ and the glory of the LORD is risen¹ upon thee.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover¹⁷ the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise⁴ upon thee, and his glory shall be seen¹¹ upon thee.

And the Gentiles shall come¹ to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Lift up³ thine eyes round about, and see:³ all they gather themselves together,⁸ they come¹ to thee: thy sons shall come⁴ from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed¹¹ at [thy] side.

Then thou shalt see,^{4 3372 4} and flow together,¹ and thine heart shall fear,¹ and be enlarged;¹ because the abundance of the sea shall be converted¹¹ unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come⁴ unto thee.

The multitude of camels shall cover¹⁷ thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come:⁴ they shall bring⁴ gold and incense; and they shall shew forth¹⁷ the praises of the LORD.

All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together¹¹ unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister¹⁷ unto thee: they shall come up⁴ with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify¹⁷ the house of my glory.

Who [are] these [that] fly⁴ as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

Surely the isles shall wait¹⁷ for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring⁵³ thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified¹⁴ thee.

And the sons of strangers shall build up¹ thy walls, and their kings shall minister¹⁷ unto thee: for in my wrath I smote⁵² thee, but in my favour have I had mercy¹⁴ on thee.

Therefore thy gates shall be open¹⁴ continually; they shall not be shut¹¹ day nor night; that [men] may bring⁵³ unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and [that] their kings [may be] brought.⁷

For the nation and kingdom that will not serve⁴ thee shall perish;⁴ yea, [those] nations shall be utterly² wasted.⁴

The glory of Lebanon shall come⁴ unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify¹⁵ the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.¹⁷

The sons also of them that afflicted¹⁸ thee shall come¹ bending² unto thee; and all they that despised¹⁸ thee shall bow themselves down⁹⁸ at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call¹ thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Whereas thou hast been forsaken⁷ and hated,⁷ so that no man went through⁶ [thee], I will make¹ thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.

Thou shalt also suck¹ the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck⁴ the breast of kings: and thou shalt know¹ that I the LORD [am] thy Saviour⁵⁶ and thy Redeemer,⁶ the mighty One of Jacob.

For brass I will bring⁵⁵ gold, and for iron I will bring⁵⁵ silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make¹ thy officers peace, and thine exactors⁶ righteousness.

Violence shall no more be heard¹¹ in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call¹ thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light⁵⁵ unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

Thy sun shall no more go down;⁴ neither shall thy moon withdraw¹¹ itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.¹

Thy people also [shall be] all righteous: they shall inherit⁴ the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.⁹⁹

A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten⁵⁵ it in his time.
