Chapter 55

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come³ ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come³ ye, buy,³ and eat;³ yea, come,³ buy³ wine and milk without money and without price.

Wherefore do ye spend⁴ money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for [that which] satisfieth not? hearken³ diligently² unto me, and eat³ ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight¹⁰¹ itself in fatness.

Incline⁵⁴ your ear, and come³ unto me: hear,³ and your soul shall live;⁴ and I will make⁴ an everlasting covenant with you, [even] the sure¹² mercies of David.

Behold, I have given¹ him [for] a witness to the people, a leader and commander¹⁸ to the people.

Behold, thou shalt call⁴ a nation [that] thou knowest⁴ not, and nations [that] knew¹ not thee shall run⁴ unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified¹⁴ thee.

Seek³ ye the LORD while he may be found,⁹ call³ ye upon him while he is near:

Let the wicked forsake⁴ his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return⁴ unto the LORD, and he will have mercy¹⁷ upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly⁵⁵ pardon.²

For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith⁷ the LORD.

For [as] the heavens are higher¹ than the earth, so are my ways higher¹ than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

For as the rain cometh down,⁴ and the snow from heaven, and returneth⁴ not thither, but watereth⁵² the earth, and maketh it bring forth⁵² and bud,⁵² that it may give¹ seed to the sower,⁶ and bread to the eater:⁶

So shall my word be that goeth forth⁴ out of my mouth: it shall not return⁴ unto me void, but it shall accomplish¹ that which I please,¹ and it shall prosper⁵² [in the thing] whereto I sent¹ it.

For ye shall go out⁴ with joy, and be led forth⁹³ with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth⁴ before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap⁴ [their] hands.

Instead of the thorn shall come up⁴ the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up⁴ the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign [that] shall not be cut off.¹¹
