Chapter 46

Bel boweth down,¹ Nebo stoopeth,⁶ their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages [were] heavy loaden;⁷ [they are] a burden to the weary [beast].

They stoop,¹ they bow down¹ together; they could¹ not deliver¹⁵ the burden, but themselves are gone¹ into captivity.

Hearken³ unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne⁷ [by me] from the belly, which are carried⁷ from the womb:

And [even] to [your] old age I [am] he; and [even] to hoar hairs will I carry⁴ [you]: I have made,¹ and I will bear;⁴ even I will carry,⁴ and will deliver¹⁷ [you].

To whom will ye liken¹⁷ me, and make [me] equal,⁵⁵ and compare⁵⁵ me, that we may be like?⁴

They lavish⁵ gold out of the bag, and weigh⁴ silver in the balance, [and] hire⁴ a goldsmith;⁶ and he maketh⁴ it a god: they fall down,⁴ yea, they worship.¹⁰¹

They bear⁴ him upon the shoulder, they carry⁴ him, and set him⁵⁵ in his place, and he standeth;⁴ from his place shall he not remove:⁵⁵ yea, [one] shall cry⁴ unto him, yet can he not answer,⁴ nor save⁵⁵ him out of his trouble.

Remember³ this, and shew yourselves men:¹⁰³ bring [it] again⁵⁴ to mind, O ye transgressors.⁶

Remember³ the former things of old: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else; [I am] God, and [there is] none like me,

Declaring⁵⁶ the end from the beginning, and from ancient times [the things] that are not [yet] done,⁸ saying,⁶ My counsel shall stand,⁴ and I will do⁴ all my pleasure:

Calling⁶ a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken¹⁴ [it], I will also bring it to pass;⁵⁵ I have purposed¹ [it], I will also do⁴ it.

Hearken³ unto me, ye stouthearted, ³⁸²⁰ that [are] far from righteousness:

I bring near¹⁴ my righteousness; it shall not be far off,⁴ and my salvation shall not tarry:¹⁷ and I will place¹ salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.
