Chapter 27

In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish⁴ leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay¹ the dragon that [is] in the sea.

In that day sing¹⁶ ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine. ²⁵³¹

I the LORD do keep⁶ it; I will water⁵⁵ it every moment: lest [any] hurt⁴ it, I will keep⁴ it night and day.

Fury [is] not in me: who would set⁴ the briers [and] thorns against me in battle? I would go⁴ through them, I would burn⁵⁵ them together.

Or let him take hold⁵⁵ of my strength, [that] he may make⁴ peace with me; [and] he shall make⁴ peace with me.

He shall cause them that come⁶ of Jacob to take root:⁵⁵ Israel shall blossom⁵⁵ and bud,¹ and fill¹ the face of the world with fruit.

Hath he smitten⁵² him, as he smote those that smote⁵⁶ him? [or] is he slain²⁷ according to the slaughter of them that are slain⁷ by him?

In measure, when it shooteth forth,¹⁵ thou wilt debate⁴ with it: he stayeth¹ his rough wind in the day of the east wind.

By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged;²⁹ and this [is] all the fruit to take away⁵³ his sin; when he maketh² all the stones of the altar as chalkstones ¹⁶¹⁵ that are beaten in sunder,³⁰ the groves and images shall not stand up.⁴

Yet the defenced⁷ city [shall be] desolate, [and] the habitation forsaken,³⁰ and left¹² like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed,⁴ and there shall he lie down,⁴ and consume¹⁴ the branches thereof.

When the boughs thereof are withered,² they shall be broken off:¹¹ the women come,⁶ [and] set them on fire:⁵⁶ for it [is] a people of no understanding: therefore he that made⁶ them will not have mercy¹⁷ on them, and he that formed⁶ them will shew them no favour.⁴

And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the LORD shall beat off⁴ from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered²⁹ one by one, O ye children of Israel.

And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the great trumpet shall be blown,¹¹ and they shall come¹ which were ready to perish⁶ in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts¹² in the land of Egypt, and shall worship⁹⁸ the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
