Chapter 25

O LORD, thou [art] my God; I will exalt³⁴ thee, I will praise⁵⁵ thy name; for thou hast done¹ wonderful [things; thy] counsels of old [are] faithfulness [and] truth.

For thou hast made¹ of a city an heap; [of] a defenced⁷ city a ruin: a palace of strangers⁵ to be no city; it shall never ⁵⁷⁶⁹ be built.¹¹

Therefore shall the strong people glorify¹⁷ thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear⁴ thee.

For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones [is] as a storm [against] the wall.

Thou shalt bring down⁵⁵ the noise of strangers,⁵ as the heat in a dry place; [even] the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.⁴

And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make¹ unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow,³⁰ of wines on the lees well refined.³⁰

And he will destroy¹⁴ in this mountain the face of the covering cast⁶ over all people, and the vail that is spread⁷ over all nations.

He will swallow up¹⁴ death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away¹ tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away⁵⁵ from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken¹⁴ [it].

And it shall be said¹ in that day, Lo, this [is] our God; we have waited¹⁴ for him, and he will save⁵⁵ us: this [is] the LORD; we have waited¹⁴ for him, we will be glad⁴ and rejoice⁴ in his salvation.

For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest,⁴ and Moab shall be trodden down⁸ under him, even as straw is trodden down⁹ for ⁴³²⁵ the dunghill.

And he shall spread forth¹⁴ his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth⁶ spreadeth forth¹⁷ [his hands] to swim:² and he shall bring down⁵² their pride together with the spoils of their hands.

And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down,⁵² lay low,⁵² [and] bring⁵² to the ground, [even] to the dust.
