Chapter 6

Whither is thy beloved gone,¹ O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside?¹ that we may seek¹⁷ him with thee.

My beloved is gone down¹ into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed² in the gardens, and to gather² lilies.

I [am] my beloved's, and my beloved [is] mine: he feedeth⁶ among the lilies.

Thou [art] beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as [an army] with banners.¹²

Turn away⁵⁴ thine eyes from me, for they have overcome⁵² me: thy hair [is] as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.

Thy teeth [are] as a flock of sheep which go up¹ from the washing, whereof every one beareth twins,⁵⁶ and [there is] not one barren among them.

As a piece of a pomegranate [are] thy temples within thy locks.

There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number.

My dove, my undefiled is [but] one; she [is] the [only] one of her mother, she [is] the choice [one] of her that bare⁶ her. The daughters saw¹ her, and blessed¹⁷ her; [yea], the queens and the concubines, and they praised¹⁷ her.

Who [is] she [that] looketh forth¹² as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, [and] terrible as [an army] with banners?¹²

I went down¹ into the garden of nuts to see² the fruits of the valley, [and] to see² whether the vine flourished,¹ [and] the pomegranates budded.⁵²

Or ever I was aware,¹ my soul made¹ me [like] the chariots of Amminadib. ^{5971 5993}

Return,³ return,³ O Shulamite; return,³ return,³ that we may look⁴ upon thee. What will ye see⁴ in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.
