Chapter 15

A soft answer turneth⁵⁵ away wrath: but grievous words stir up⁵⁵ anger.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright:⁵⁵ but the mouth of fools poureth out⁵⁵ foolishness.

The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding⁶ the evil and the good.

A wholesome tongue [is] a tree of life: but perverseness therein [is] a breach in the spirit.

A fool despiseth⁴ his father's instruction: but he that regardeth⁶ reproof is prudent.⁵⁵

In the house of the righteous [is] much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.¹²

The lips of the wise disperse¹⁷ knowledge: but the heart of the foolish [doeth] not so.

The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight.

The way of the wicked [is] an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth⁴ him that followeth¹⁸ after righteousness.

Correction [is] grievous unto him that forsaketh⁶ the way: [and] he that hateth⁶ reproof shall die.⁴

Hell and destruction [are] before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

A scorner⁵ loveth⁴ not one that reproveth⁵³ him: neither will he go⁴ unto the wise.

A merry heart maketh a cheerful⁵⁵ countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

The heart of him that hath understanding¹² seeketh¹⁷ knowledge: but the mouth ⁶⁴⁴⁰ of fools feedeth⁴ on foolishness.

All the days of the afflicted [are] evil: but he that is of a merry heart [hath] a continual feast.

Better [is] little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Better [is] a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled⁷ ox and hatred therewith.

A wrathful man stirreth up¹⁷ strife: but [he that is] slow to anger appeaseth⁵⁵ strife.

The way of the slothful [man is] as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous [is] made plain.⁷

A wise son maketh a glad¹⁷ father: but a foolish man despiseth⁶ his mother.

Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh² uprightly.¹⁷

Without counsel purposes are disappointed:⁵³ but in the multitude of counsellors⁶ they are established.⁴

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [is it]!

The way of life [is] above to the wise,⁵⁶ that he may depart² from hell beneath.

The LORD will destroy⁴ the house of the proud: but he will establish⁵⁵ the border of the widow.

The thoughts of the wicked [are] an abomination to the LORD: but [the words] of the pure [are] pleasant words.

He that is greedy⁶ of gain troubleth⁶ his own house; but he that hateth⁶ gifts shall live.⁴

The heart of the righteous studieth⁴ to answer:² but the mouth of the wicked poureth out⁵⁵ evil things.

The LORD [is] far from the wicked: but he heareth⁴ the prayer of the righteous.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth¹⁷ the heart: [and] a good report maketh the bones fat.¹⁷

The ear that heareth⁶ the reproof of life abideth⁴ among the wise.

He that refuseth⁶ instruction despiseth⁶ his own soul: but he that heareth⁶ reproof getteth⁶ understanding.

The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [is] humility.
