Chapter 12

Whoso loveth⁶ instruction loveth⁶ knowledge: but he that hateth⁶ reproof [is] brutish.

A good [man] obtaineth⁵⁵ favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.⁵⁵

A man shall not be established¹¹ by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.¹¹

A virtuous woman [is] a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed⁵⁶ [is] as rottenness in his bones.

The thoughts of the righteous [are] right: [but] the counsels of the wicked [are] deceit.

The words of the wicked [are] to lie in wait² for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver⁵⁵ them.

The wicked are overthrown,² and [are] not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.⁴

A man shall be commended²⁹ according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse¹² heart shall be despised.

[He that is] despised,¹² and hath a servant, [is] better than he that honoureth¹⁰² himself, and lacketh bread.

A righteous [man] regardeth⁶ the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked [are] cruel.

He that tilleth⁶ his land shall be satisfied⁴ with bread: but he that followeth¹⁸ vain [persons is] void of understanding.

The wicked desireth¹ the net of evil [men]: but the root of the righteous yieldeth⁴ [fruit].

The wicked is snared by the transgression of [his] lips: but the just shall come out⁴ of trouble.

A man shall be satisfied⁴ with good by the fruit of [his] mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered^{55 7725 4} unto him.

The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth⁶ unto counsel [is] wise.

A fool's wrath is presently known:¹¹ but a prudent [man] covereth⁶ shame.

[He that] speaketh⁵⁵ truth sheweth forth⁵⁵ righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

There is that speaketh⁶ like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health.

The lip of truth shall be established¹¹ for ever: but a lying tongue [is] but for a moment.⁵⁵

Deceit [is] in the heart of them that imagine⁶ evil: but to the counsellors⁶ of peace [is] joy.

There shall no evil happen²⁹ to the just: but the wicked shall be filled¹ with mischief.

Lying lips [are] abomination to the LORD: but they that deal⁶ truly [are] his delight.

A prudent man concealeth⁶ knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth⁴ foolishness.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule:⁴ but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:⁵⁵ but a good word maketh it glad.¹⁷

The righteous [is] more excellent⁵⁵ than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth⁵⁵ them.

The slothful [man] roasteth⁴ not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man [is] precious.

In the way of righteousness [is] life; and [in] the pathway ¹⁸⁷⁰ [thereof there is] no death.
