Chapter 10

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad¹⁷ father: but a foolish son [is] the heaviness of his mother.

Treasures of wickedness profit⁵⁵ nothing: but righteousness delivereth⁵⁵ from death.

The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish:⁵⁵ but he casteth away⁴ the substance of the wicked.

He becometh poor⁶ that dealeth⁶ [with] a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.⁵⁵

He that gathereth⁶ in summer [is] a wise⁵⁶ son: [but] he that sleepeth¹² in harvest [is] a son that causeth shame.⁵⁶

Blessings [are] upon the head of the just: but violence covereth¹⁷ the mouth of the wicked.

The memory of the just [is] blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.⁴

The wise in heart will receive⁴ commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.¹¹

He that walketh⁶ uprightly walketh⁴ surely: but he that perverteth¹⁸ his ways shall be known.¹¹

He that winketh⁶ with the eye causeth⁴ sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.¹¹

The mouth of a righteous [man is] a well of life: but violence covereth¹⁷ the mouth of the wicked.

Hatred stirreth up³⁴ strifes: but love covereth¹⁷ all sins.

In the lips of him that hath understanding¹² wisdom is found:¹¹ but a rod [is] for the back of him that is void of understanding.

Wise [men] lay up⁴ knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish [is] near destruction.

The rich man's wealth [is] his strong city: the destruction of the poor [is] their poverty.

The labour of the righteous [tendeth] to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

He [is in] the way of life that keepeth⁶ instruction: but he that refuseth⁶ reproof erreth.⁵⁶

He that hideth¹⁸ hatred [with] lying lips, and he that uttereth⁵⁶ a slander, [is] a fool.

In the multitude of words there wanteth⁴ not sin: but he that refraineth⁶ his lips [is] wise.⁵⁶

The tongue of the just [is as] choice¹² silver: the heart of the wicked [is] little worth.

The lips of the righteous feed⁴ many: but fools die⁴ for want of wisdom.

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich,⁵⁵ and he addeth⁵⁵ no sorrow with it.

[It is] as sport to a fool to do² mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

The fear of the wicked, it shall come⁴ upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.⁴

As the whirlwind passeth,² so [is] the wicked no [more]: but the righteous [is] an everlasting foundation.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so [is] the sluggard to them that send⁶ him.

The fear of the LORD prolongeth⁵⁵ days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.⁴

The hope of the righteous [shall be] gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.⁴

The way of the LORD [is] strength to the upright: but destruction [shall be] to the workers⁶ of iniquity.

The righteous shall never ⁵⁷⁶⁹ be removed:¹¹ but the wicked shall not inhabit⁴ the earth.

The mouth of the just bringeth forth⁴ wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.¹¹

The lips of the righteous know⁴ what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] frowardness.
