Chapter 144

[A Psalm] of David.
Blessed⁷ [be] the LORD my strength, which teacheth¹⁸ my hands to war, [and] my fingers to fight:

My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer;¹⁸ my shield, and [he] in whom I trust;¹ who subdueth⁶ my people under me.

LORD, what [is] man, that thou takest knowledge⁴ of him! [or] the son of man, that thou makest account¹⁷ of him!

Man is like¹ to vanity: his days [are] as a shadow that passeth away.⁶

Bow⁵⁴ thy heavens, O LORD, and come down:⁴ touch³ the mountains, and they shall smoke.⁴

Cast forth³ lightning, and scatter⁵⁵ them: shoot out³ thine arrows, and destroy⁴ them.

Send³ thine hand from above; rid³ me, and deliver⁵⁴ me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;

Whose mouth speaketh¹⁴ vanity, and their right hand [is] a right hand of falsehood.

I will sing⁴ a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery [and] an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises¹⁷ unto thee.

[It is he] that giveth⁶ salvation unto kings: who delivereth⁶ David his servant from the hurtful sword.

Rid³ me, and deliver⁵⁴ me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh¹⁴ vanity, and their right hand [is] a right hand of falsehood:

That our sons [may be] as plants grown up³⁰ in their youth; [that] our daughters [may be] as corner stones, polished³⁰ [after] the similitude of a palace:

[That] our garners [may be] full, affording⁵⁶ all manner of store: ²¹⁷⁷ [that] our sheep may bring forth thousands⁵⁶ and ten thousands³⁰ in our streets:

[That] our oxen [may be] strong to labour;³⁰ [that there be] no breaking in, nor going out;⁶ that [there be] no complaining in our streets.

Happy [is that] people, that is in such a case: [yea], happy [is that] people, whose God [is] the LORD.
