Chapter 107

O give thanks⁵⁴ unto the LORD, for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

Let the redeemed⁷ of the LORD say⁴ [so], whom he hath redeemed¹ from the hand of the enemy;

And gathered¹⁴ them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

They wandered¹ in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found¹ no city to dwell in.

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted¹⁰¹ in them.

Then they cried⁴ unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered⁵⁵ them out of their distresses.

And he led them forth⁵⁵ by the right way, that they might go² to a city of habitation.

Oh that [men] would praise⁵⁵ the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works¹² to the children of men!

For he satisfieth⁵² the longing⁶ soul, and filleth¹⁴ the hungry soul with goodness.

Such as sit in⁶ darkness and in the shadow of death, [being] bound in affliction and iron;

Because they rebelled⁵² against the words of God, and contemned¹ the counsel of the most High:

Therefore he brought down⁵⁵ their heart with labour; they fell down,¹ and [there was] none to help.⁶

Then they cried⁴ unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved⁵⁵ them out of their distresses.

He brought them out⁵⁵ of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake¹⁷ their bands in sunder.

Oh that [men] would praise⁵⁵ the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works¹² to the children of men!

For he hath broken¹⁴ the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.¹⁴

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.¹⁰¹

Their soul abhorreth¹⁷ all manner of meat; and they draw near⁵⁵ unto the gates of death.

Then they cry⁴ unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saveth⁵⁵ them out of their distresses.

He sent⁴ his word, and healed⁴ them, and delivered¹⁷ [them] from their destructions.

Oh that [men] would praise⁵⁵ the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works¹² to the children of men!

And let them sacrifice⁴ the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare¹⁷ his works with rejoicing.

They that go down⁶ to the sea in ships, that do⁶ business in great waters;

These see¹ the works of the LORD, and his wonders¹² in the deep.

For he commandeth,⁴ and raiseth⁵⁵ the stormy wind, which lifteth up³⁴ the waves thereof.

They mount up⁴ to the heaven, they go down⁴ again to the depths: their soul is melted¹¹³ because of trouble.

They reel to and fro,⁴ and stagger⁴ like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end.¹⁰¹

Then they cry⁴ unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out⁵⁵ of their distresses.

He maketh⁵⁵ the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.⁴

Then are they glad⁴ because they be quiet;⁴ so he bringeth⁵⁵ them unto their desired haven.

Oh that [men] would praise⁵⁵ the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works¹² to the children of men!

Let them exalt³⁴ him also in the congregation of the people, and praise¹⁷ him in the assembly of the elders.

He turneth⁴ rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings ⁴¹⁶¹ into dry ground;

A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell⁶ therein.

He turneth⁴ the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. ⁴¹⁶¹

And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,⁵⁵ that they may prepare³⁴ a city for habitation;

And sow⁴ the fields, and plant⁴ vineyards, which may yield⁴ fruits of increase.

He blesseth¹⁷ them also, so that they are multiplied⁴ greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.⁵⁵

Again, they are minished⁴ and brought low⁴ through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

He poureth⁶ contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander⁵⁵ in the wilderness, [where there is] no way.

Yet setteth he the poor on high¹⁷ from affliction, and maketh⁴ [him] families like a flock.

The righteous shall see⁴ [it], and rejoice:⁴ and all iniquity shall stop¹ her mouth.

Whoso [is] wise, and will observe⁴ these [things], even they shall understand¹¹³ the lovingkindness of the LORD.
