Chapter 90

A Prayer of Moses the man of God.
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth,²⁷ or ever thou hadst formed³⁴ the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou [art] God.

Thou turnest⁵⁵ man to destruction; and sayest,⁴ Return,³ ye children of men.

For a thousand years in thy sight [are but] as yesterday ³¹¹⁷ when it is past,⁴ and [as] a watch in the night.

Thou carriest them away as with a flood;¹ they are [as] a sleep: in the morning [they are] like grass [which] groweth up.⁴

In the morning it flourisheth,⁵⁵ and groweth up;¹ in the evening it is cut down,³⁴ and withereth.¹

For we are consumed¹ by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.⁸

Thou hast set¹ our iniquities before thee, our secret⁷ [sins] in the light of thy countenance.

For all our days are passed away¹ in thy wrath: we spend¹⁴ our years as a tale [that is told].

The days of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength [they be] fourscore years, yet [is] their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off,¹ and we fly away.⁴

Who knoweth⁶ the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, [so is] thy wrath.

So teach⁵⁴ [us] to number² our days, that we may apply⁵⁵ [our] hearts unto wisdom.

Return,³ O LORD, how long? and let it repent¹⁰ thee concerning thy servants.

O satisfy¹⁶ us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice¹⁷ and be glad⁴ all our days.

Make us glad¹⁶ according to the days [wherein] thou hast afflicted¹⁴ us, [and] the years [wherein] we have seen¹ evil.

Let thy work appear¹¹ unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish³³ thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish³³ thou it.
