Chapter 83

A Song [or] Psalm of Asaph.
Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace,⁴ and be not still,⁴ O God.

For, lo, thine enemies⁶ make a tumult:⁴ and they that hate¹⁸ thee have lifted up¹ the head.

They have taken crafty⁵⁵ counsel against thy people, and consulted¹⁰¹ against thy hidden ones.⁷

They have said,¹ Come,³ and let us cut them off⁵⁵ from [being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.¹¹

For they have consulted⁸ together with one consent: they are⁴ confederate against thee:

The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants⁶ of Tyre;

Assur also is joined⁸ with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

Do³ unto them as [unto] the Midianites; as [to] Sisera, as [to] Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

[Which] perished⁸ at Endor: they became [as] dung for the earth.

Make³ their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

Who said,¹ Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.⁴

O my God, make³ them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

As the fire burneth⁴ a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;¹⁷

So persecute⁴ them with thy tempest, and make them afraid¹⁷ with thy storm.

Fill¹⁶ their faces with shame; that they may seek¹⁷ thy name, O LORD.

Let them be confounded⁴ and troubled¹¹ for ever; yea, let them be put to shame,⁴ and perish:⁴

That [men] may know⁴ that thou, whose name alone [is] JEHOVAH, [art] the most high over all the earth.
