Chapter 81

To the chief Musician¹⁸ upon Gittith, [A Psalm] of Asaph.
Sing aloud⁵⁴ unto God our strength: make a joyful noise⁵⁴ unto the God of Jacob.

Take³ a psalm, and bring³ hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

Blow³ up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

For this [was] a statute for Israel, [and] a law of the God of Jacob.

This he ordained¹ in Joseph [for] a testimony, when he went out² through the land of Egypt: [where] I heard⁴ a language [that] I understood¹ not.

I removed⁵² his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered⁴ from the pots.

Thou calledst¹ in trouble, and I delivered¹⁷ thee; I answered⁴ thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved⁴ thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

Hear,³ O my people, and I will testify⁵⁵ unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken⁴ unto me;

There shall no strange⁵ god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship¹⁰¹ any strange god.

I [am] the LORD thy God, which brought⁵⁶ thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide,⁵⁴ and I will fill¹⁷ it.

But my people would not hearken¹ to my voice; and Israel would¹ none of me.

So I gave them up¹⁷ unto their own hearts' lust: [and] they walked⁴ in their own counsels.

Oh that my people had hearkened⁶ unto me, [and] Israel had walked¹⁷ in my ways!

I should soon have subdued⁵⁵ their enemies,⁶ and turned⁵⁵ my hand against their adversaries.

The haters¹⁸ of the LORD should have submitted¹⁷ themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.

He should have fed⁵⁵ them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied⁵⁵ thee.
