Chapter 80

To the chief Musician¹⁸ upon Shoshannimeduth, ^{5715 7802} A Psalm of Asaph.
Give ear,⁵⁴ O Shepherd⁶ of Israel, thou that leadest⁶ Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest⁶ [between] the cherubims, shine forth.⁵⁴

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up³³ thy strength, and come³ [and] save us.

Turn us again,⁵⁴ O God, and cause thy face to shine;⁵⁴ and we shall be saved.¹¹

O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry¹ against the prayer of thy people?

Thou feedest⁵² them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink⁵⁵ in great measure.

Thou makest⁴ us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies⁶ laugh⁴ among themselves.

Turn us again,⁵⁴ O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine;⁵⁴ and we shall be saved.¹¹

Thou hast brought⁵⁵ a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out¹⁷ the heathen, and planted⁴ it.

Thou preparedst¹⁴ [room] before it, and didst cause it to take deep root,⁵⁵ and it filled¹⁷ the land.

The hills were covered²⁷ with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof [were like] the goodly cedars.

She sent out¹⁷ her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

Why hast thou [then] broken down¹ her hedges, so that all they which pass by⁶ the way do pluck¹ her?

The boar out of the wood doth waste¹⁷ it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour⁴ it.

Return,³ we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down⁵⁴ from heaven, and behold,³ and visit³ this vine;

And the vineyard ^{3661 3} which thy right hand hath planted,¹ and the branch [that] thou madest strong¹⁴ for thyself.

[It is] burned⁷ with fire, [it is] cut down:⁷ they perish⁴ at the rebuke of thy countenance.

Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man [whom] thou madest strong¹⁴ for thyself.

So will not we go back⁴ from thee: quicken¹⁷ us, and we will call⁴ upon thy name.

Turn us again,⁵⁴ O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine;⁵⁴ and we shall be saved.¹¹
