Chapter 27

[A Psalm] of David.
The LORD [is] my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?⁴ the LORD [is] the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?⁴

When the wicked,⁵⁶ [even] mine enemies and my foes,⁶ came² upon me to eat up² my flesh, they stumbled¹ and fell.¹

Though an host should encamp⁴ against me, my heart shall not fear:⁴ though war should rise⁴ against me, in this [will] I [be] confident.⁶

One [thing] have I desired¹ of the LORD, that will I seek¹⁷ after; that I may dwell² in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold² the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire¹⁵ in his temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide⁴ me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide⁵⁵ me; he shall set me up³⁴ upon a rock.

And now shall mine head be lifted up⁴ above mine enemies⁶ round about me: therefore will I offer⁴ in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing,⁴ yea, I will sing praises¹⁷ unto the LORD.

Hear,³ O LORD, [when] I cry⁴ with my voice: have mercy³ also upon me, and answer³ me.

[When thou saidst], Seek¹⁶ ye my face; my heart said¹ unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.¹⁷

Hide⁵⁵ not thy face [far] from me; put not thy servant away⁵⁵ in anger: thou hast been my help; leave⁴ me not, neither forsake⁴ me, O God of my salvation.

When my father and my mother forsake¹ me, then the LORD will take me up.⁴

Teach⁵⁴ me thy way, O LORD, and lead³ me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.⁶

Deliver⁴ me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up¹ against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

[I had fainted], unless I had believed⁵² to see² the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

Wait¹⁶ on the LORD: be of good courage,³ and he shall strengthen⁵⁵ thine heart: wait,¹⁶ I say, on the LORD.
