Chapter 17

A Prayer of David.
Hear³ the right, O LORD, attend⁵⁴ unto my cry, give ear⁵⁴ unto my prayer, [that goeth] not out of feigned lips.

Let my sentence come forth⁴ from thy presence; let thine eyes behold⁴ the things that are equal.

Thou hast proved¹ mine heart; thou hast visited¹ [me] in the night; thou hast tried¹ me, [and] shalt find⁴ nothing; I am purposed² [that] my mouth shall not transgress.⁴

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept¹ [me from] the paths of the destroyer.

Hold up² my goings in thy paths, [that] my footsteps slip⁸ not.

I have called¹ upon thee, for thou wilt hear⁴ me, O God: incline⁵⁴ thine ear unto me, [and hear]³ my speech.

Shew thy marvellous⁵⁴ lovingkindness, O thou that savest⁵⁶ by thy right hand them which put their trust⁶ [in thee] from those that rise up¹⁰² [against them].

Keep³ me as the apple of the eye, ⁵⁸⁶⁹ hide⁵⁵ me under the shadow of thy wings,

From the wicked that oppress¹ me, [from] my deadly enemies,⁶ [who] compass me about.⁵⁵

They are inclosed¹ in their own fat: with their mouth they speak¹⁴ proudly.

They have now compassed¹ us in our steps: they have set⁴ their eyes bowing down² to the earth;

Like as a lion [that] is greedy⁴ of his prey,² and as it were a young lion lurking⁶ in secret places.

Arise,³ O LORD, disappoint¹⁶ him, cast him down:⁵⁴ deliver¹⁶ my soul from the wicked, [which is] thy sword:

From men [which are] thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, [which have] their portion in [this] life, and whose belly thou fillest¹⁷ with thy hid^{7 6840} [treasure]: they are full⁴ of children, and leave⁵² the rest of their [substance] to their babes.

As for me, I will behold⁴ thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied,⁴ when I awake,⁵³ with thy likeness.
