Chapter 35

Elihu spake⁴ moreover, and said,⁴

Thinkest¹ thou this to be right, [that] thou saidst,¹ My righteousness [is] more than God's?

For thou saidst,⁴ What advantage⁴ will it be unto thee? [and], What profit⁵⁵ shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?

I will answer^{55 4405} thee, and thy companions with thee.

Look⁵⁴ unto the heavens, and see;³ and behold³ the clouds [which] are higher¹ than thou.

If thou sinnest,¹ what doest⁴ thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions be multiplied,¹ what doest⁴ thou unto him?

If thou be righteous,¹ what givest⁴ thou him? or what receiveth⁴ he of thine hand?

Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art]; and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry:⁵⁵ they cry out¹⁷ by reason of the arm of the mighty.

But none saith,¹ Where [is] God my maker,⁶ who giveth⁶ songs in the night;

Who teacheth¹⁸ us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser¹⁷ than the fowls of heaven?

There they cry,⁴ but none giveth answer,⁴ because of the pride of evil men.

Surely God will not hear⁴ vanity, neither will the Almighty regard⁴ it.

Although thou sayest⁴ thou shalt not see⁴ him, [yet] judgment [is] before him; therefore trust³⁴ thou in him.

But now, because [it is] not [so], he hath visited¹ in his anger; yet he knoweth¹ [it] not in great extremity:

Therefore doth Job open⁴ his mouth in vain; he multiplieth⁵⁵ words without knowledge.
