Chapter 24

When a man hath taken⁴ a wife, and married¹ her, and it come to pass that she find⁴ no favour in his eyes, because he hath found¹ some uncleanness in her: then let him write¹ her a bill of divorcement, and give¹ [it] in her hand, and send¹⁴ her out of his house.

And when she is departed¹ out of his house, she may go¹ and be another man's [wife].

And [if] the latter husband hate¹ her, and write¹ her a bill of divorcement, and giveth¹ [it] in her hand, and sendeth¹⁴ her out of his house; or if the latter husband die,⁴ which took¹ her [to be] his wife;

Her former husband, which sent her away,¹⁴ may⁴ not take² her again² to be his wife, after that she is defiled;¹²⁰ for that [is] abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin,⁵⁵ which the LORD thy God giveth⁶ thee [for] an inheritance.

When a man hath taken⁴ a new wife, he shall not go out⁴ to war, neither shall he be charged⁴ with any business: [but] he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up¹⁴ his wife which he hath taken.¹

No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge:⁴ for he taketh [a man's] life to pledge.⁶

If a man be found¹¹ stealing⁶ any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise⁹⁸ of him, or selleth¹ him; then that thief shall die;¹ and thou shalt put evil away¹⁴ from among you.

Take heed¹⁰ in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe² diligently, and do² according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach⁵⁵ you: as I commanded¹⁴ them, [so] ye shall observe⁴ to do.²

Remember² what the LORD thy God did¹ unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth² out of Egypt.

When thou dost lend⁵⁵ thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go⁴ into his house to fetch² his pledge.

Thou shalt stand⁴ abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend⁶ shall bring out⁵⁵ the pledge abroad unto thee.

And if the man [be] poor, thou shalt not sleep⁴ with his pledge:

In any case⁵³ thou shalt deliver him the pledge again⁵⁵ when the sun goeth down,² that he may sleep¹ in his own raiment, and bless¹⁴ thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.

Thou shalt not oppress⁴ an hired servant [that is] poor and needy, [whether he be] of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that [are] in thy land within thy gates:

At his day thou shalt give⁴ [him] his hire, neither shall the sun go down⁴ upon it; for he [is] poor, and setteth⁶ his heart upon it: lest he cry⁴ against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.

The fathers shall not be put to death⁹³ for the children, neither shall the children be put to death⁹³ for the fathers: every man shall be put to death⁹³ for his own sin.

Thou shalt not pervert⁵⁵ the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:⁴

But thou shalt remember¹ that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed⁴ thee thence: therefore I command¹⁸ thee to do² this thing.

When thou cuttest down⁴ thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot¹ a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again⁴ to fetch² it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless¹⁷ thee in all the work of thine hands.

When thou beatest⁴ thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs¹⁷ again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

When thou gatherest⁴ the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean²⁵ [it] afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

And thou shalt remember¹ that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command¹⁸ thee to do² this thing.
