  suburb of Toulon, S.V. of that
port
 , and connected with it by
rail
  and steamer. Pop. (1901) 21,002. It owes its importance to the shipbuilding
trade
 , the Societe des Forges et Chantiers de la Mediterranee having here one of the finest shipbuilding yards in Europe (it is a
branch
  of the greater
establishment
  at
Marseilles
 ), which gives employment to about 3000 workmen.
