SCHNEIDEMUHL (Polish Pila) , a town of Germany, in the Prussian province of Posen, situated on the Cuddow, 6o m. N. of Posen and 145 M. N.E. of Berlin on the main line to
Konigsberg
 , and at the junction of lines to Stargard and Thorn. Pop. (19o5), 21,624. It has five churches, a classical school and a Roman Catholic teachers'
seminary
 . Schneidemuhl carries on a trade in
wood
 ,
grain
  and potatoes, and possesses an iron foundry, several glass works and machine-shops, and other industrial establishments. Considerable damage was done to the town in 1893 by a violent overflow of water from a deep artesian well.
