MOBERLY

MOBERLY , a city of Randolph county, Missouri, U.S.A., in the north central
part
  of the state, about 130 M. E. by N. of Kansas City. Pop. (1890), 8215; (1900), 8012, (923 negroes); (1910), 10,923. It is served by the Missouri, Kansas &
Texas
  and the
Wabash
  railways, and is a division headquarters of the latter. The city is regularly laid out on a level prairie site. There are two public parks, a
Carnegie
  library, a commercial college, a Y.M.C.A. building, and a
hospital

Association. The most important industrial establishments are the large
machine
  shops (established here in 1872) of the Wdbash railway. Moberly was platted in 1866, was incorporated as a town and became the county-seat in 1868, and in 1873 secured a

  city charter, which it surrendered in 1889 for city status under the general
statute
 .
