garrison
 . The inhabitants

  themselves Jagatais, a
Turki
  race, though now generally mixed with Tajiks and speaking

 . In the neighbourhood of Haibak are some very typical Buddhist ruins. Haibak derives its importance from its position on the
main
  line of communication between Kabul and Afghan
Turkestan
