FORTESCUE, SIR JOHN (c. 1531-1607) , English statesman, was the eldest son of Sir Adrian Fortescue (executed in 1539), and of his second wife, Anne, daughter of Sir William Reade or Retie of Borstall in Buckinghamshire. The exact date of his birth

His long public career was highly honourable, and he served his sovereign and country with unswerving fidelity and honesty.
