Monotheism

{mahn'-uh-thee-izm}

Monotheism is the religious conception of a single and transcendent God. It contrasts particularly with Polytheism, belief in many gods, and Pantheism, belief in God as synonymous with the universe. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are the principal monotheistic religions.
