JCSM's Weekly Devotions "The Bible on Health and Exercise" Proverbs 6:6-11 " Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man." 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." 1 Corinthians 9:24, 25 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown." Hebrews 12:1, 2 "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Insight: Our bodies belong to our Creator, so we need to be treating them right. Eat healthy foods, exercise, avoid overeating and laziness, and you'll reap the benefits. Get stronger so you can serve God longer! Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us and make us strong. Remove our worries and fears and help us to be disciplined. Give us self-control, so we can control our appetites and get plenty of exercise. Help people make a lifestyle change, as necessary, to get their will in line with yours. Thank you for your help and your love. In Jesus' name, Amen."
On March 25, 1989, headlines this week reported that two Utah researchers had harnessed nuclear fusion. The scientists claimed success with a simple experiment performed in their laboratory. There was great surprise since hundreds of scientists have been studying nuclear fusion for decades with large instruments and million degree temperatures, and with very limited success. The Utah report has now been largely discredited. Nuclear fusion is thought to be the energy source of the sun and all other stars. However, scientists have had little success in controlling this process which the Creator uses daily to provide our sunshine. This excerpt was taken from Donald DeYoung's book called, "365 Fascinating Facts From the World of Discovery."
The Bible tells us that while exercise profits us a little, godliness helps us even more (but don't use that as an excuse to ruin God's temple!).

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims: Matthew 3:10, 12 - Those who bear bad fruit will be cut down and burned "with unquenchable fire." "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds: Jesus is simply indicating that the people who do evil and do not repent and trust, believe, and accept Him as their Lord and Savior will be judged and die. He is also referring to the Lake of Fire. See Revelation 20:10-15. (This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained". This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org. There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)
