Dear Subscribers,

We hope you had a great holiday weekend.

JCSM's Bible study will be postponed this week.  We are going to The Kry's concert at Maranatha Chapel on Wednesday at 7pm.  This free show will be great, so please join us!

The Spirit West Coast music festival in San Diego was last weekend.  I heard some great Christian bands like Jars of Clay, Newsboys, Third Day, Christafari, and Skillet.  We hope you went and were blessed as much as we were!

Thanks to everyone who has prayed for my band.  I'm very happy to say we now have a top notch drummer and bassist.  They'll be playing with me as I sing and play the guitar.  Please pray that we will find an excellent keyboardist and sound person (and possibly one more guitarist) soon because those are the last pieces of the puzzle!

What do you think we should name our band?  Email your suggestion to us!  If we use your suggestion, we'll give you a free copy of our CD-ROM called, "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained."

Welcome to the new readers of this message!  Here is your Devotion, some Cool Facts, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week.  Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

JCSM

"Where Are You?"

Genesis 3:1-9  "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.  And he said to the woman, 'Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?  And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’  Then the serpent said to the woman, 'You will not surely die.  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.'

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.  And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.  Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?'"

Insight: God knows where we are, both spiritually and physically.  Today, He asks us where we are just like He asked Adam and Eve where they were.  Each believer in Jesus Christ needs to examine his or her life and submit everything to God.  He wants to take us from where we are to where He wants us to be.

Prayer: "Dear Lord, bless us and make us like You.  Thank you for loving us more than we understand and realize.  Thank you for wanting a relationship with us.  Help us to listen to You and do your will.  Thank you for being perfect, holy, and true.  There is nobody else like You.  Forgive our sins and put our feet on a rock.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

Cool Facts

On February 23rd, 1929, the first patient was treated by diathermy in Schenectady, New York. Diathermy involves exposure to high frequency electric currents. The medical technique is found to increase blood flow and reduce inflammation. The human body itself produces many electrical signals within its nerves. These small electrical currents regulate the process of life. The frequencies used in diathermy provide internal heating without affecting the life-sustaining internal currents. We do not fully understand electricity but our bodies have been created to use electric signals continually.

This excerpt was taken from Donald DeYoung's book called, "365 Fascinating Facts From the World of Discovery."

A Moment of Introspection

Just like you can have a real relationship with another human being, you can have a real relationship with God.

JCSM's Challenge

Cultivate your relationship with God.  This means spend some time listening to Him, talking to Him, meditating on His Word, and thinking about the ways You can apply His teachings to your life.  People who take time to pray and meditate have better, more effective lives because they are following the Creator's direction.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Matthew 1:6-16 - There are 29 generations listed from David to Jesus in Matthew's genealogy, while Luke's (3:23-31) has 43. Except for David at one end and Jesus at the other, there are only three names in the two lists that are the same.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

Both of these lists contain some omissions and neither list claims to be exhaustive.  They don't contradict each other, though.

Luke reveals the genealogy of Mary.  Matthew lists the genealogy of Joseph.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained".  This book is on CD and gives over 4,000 answers to alleged Bible errors, regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.  There is also a 300 question workbook that accompanies the CD-ROM.)

Quotes of the Week

Prayer isn't an emotional exercise.  It's a real conversation with God.

It's one thing to know about God and/or the Bible and another thing to be passionately excited about your relationship with God.
