Devotions for November 10^th through 14^th

Monday "Be A Light"

John 18:12 "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'."

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

1 Peter 3:15 "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"

Romans 13:12, 13 "The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy."

Prayer: "Praise You for being the light of the world! Make us just like You, Lord. Thank you for changing us and sanctifying us when we seek You. Let our lights shine for all the world to see. And when the world wants to know why we have hope and light, give us the best words to say. In Jesus' name, Amen."

*** Jesus is the light and we are the reflectors.

Tuesday "Less Than Perfect"

Hebrews 11:31-34 "By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies."

Romans 3:10 "As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;"

Prayer: "Thank you for accepting us, even though we are far from perfect. Forgive us of our sins. Give us more faithfulness to You and wisdom. Thank you for the good examples of the faithful servants in Hebrews chapter 11 (commonly called the "Hall of Faith"). Thank you that each of these people sinned, some like us, but all have the potential to do great things. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Wednesday "Christ, the Word, the Holy Spirit and God"

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 10:30 (Jesus said,) "I and the Father are one."

John 14:26 "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Prayer: "Thank you for what we know about the Word, Christ, the Holy Spirit and God. Thank you for the mysteries of God, too. Don't let what we don't know get in the way of what we do know. Bless us and give us deeper faith and more knowledge of You, Lord. Thank you for revealing yourself to us through your Word and coming to earth as Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Thursday "Can They Tell?"

Acts 9:18-20 "Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God."

Daniel 6:7, 10 "The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into the lions' den. Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before."

Prayer: "Thank you for giving us salvation, Jesus. Bless us and give us boldness to worship You and spread the gospel. Give us kindness and love, also. Thank you for our friends, families and peers. Let them know You and use us to spread the good news, no matter what the consequences may be. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Friday "God Wants Our Fellowship"

Genesis 3:8-9 "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, 'Where are you?'"

Luke 15:10 "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

Prayer: "Thank you for wanting to have fellowship with us so badly. Give us a desire to know You and worship You. Thank you for having mercy and patience with us. Bless us and give us joy as we seek You and find You. Praise You for your faithfulness! Your ears are always open. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Challenge:

Take some old clothes from your closet and give them away. You could give them to some poor or homeless people, in a safe area, or you could give them to an organization such as Goodwill or Red Cross. If you give them to a person, directly, tell them about Jesus Christ and pray with them. Most needy people will listen to gift-bearers and even pray with them. I gave a bag of clothes to Goodwill last week. Two days later, my aunt gave me $50, just because she loves me. This isn't the way God works every time, but He will surely bless you when you give. You may be very surprised, like I was!

Did You Know That...

In reality, a close examination of the Bible reveals many accurate scientific observations that were written long before modern scientists ever discovered them. In the early part of the twentieth century, for example, it was determined through Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, that the universe had a beginning, and some entity, therefore, must have been responsible for its beginning. By definition then, this entity would have had to exist outside of the universe in order to create it. Hebrews 11:3 tells ut the universe was "framed by the Word of God."
