A Summary of John 3:11-15
Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about several things. He drew a line in the sand,
so to speak, with Nicodemus and the religious leaders on one side and Jesus
and His disciples on the other side. He made this distinction by using the
words “we”, in reference to Him and His disciples, and the word “ye”,
referring to Nicodemus and his side.
Nicodemus recognized Jesus as a teacher from God. This was a good start, but
it surely wasn’t an accurate description. Jesus was and is the Messiah, the
uncreated Creator, and part of the triune Godhead.
Jesus tells Nicodemus that he needs to have faith. He explains the need for
salvation and points Nicodemus to the scriptures. Jesus concludes with
referring to an Old Testament passage that typified the crucifixion that was
to come. This passage can be found in Numbers 21, where Moses lifted up a
bronze serpent that the Israelites were to view and live. Jesus was the one
that Nicodemus had to look to for salvation.
