Symbolisms and Comparisons

There are many symbolisms in these passages in Genesis. Some foreshadow events to come and others are types of people that will come. They are both supernatural and dynamic.

Noah represents the believer in Jesus Christ. As him and his family entered the ark, they left a sinful world. Many days later, they stepped out of the ark onto dry land. They were given a clean start. This is what Christians get when they accept, believe and trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The old world passes away and all things become new.

When God called Abram, it represented the heavenly calling of believers in Jesus Christ. Abram was called by God, while he was in his own country and doing worldly things. In God’s awesome grace and love, He reached for Abram and embraced him. This is exactly what God does for us. The God of love seeks us and calls us before we acknowledge Him. The following verse illustrates this point nicely: "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Abram’s calling represents the starting point for all people who live a life of faith in Jesus Christ. He calls us to leave everything and follow Him. God commands us to put no other gods before Him. His will is our highest priority and this is seen in Abram when he leaves Ur and eventually leaves most of his family.
