Noah: A Type of Christ
In addition to being a godly man, Noah was also a type of Christ. There are three typical references to Christ that are very striking. The Word of God was indeed written by a hand that was outside of our time and space because no other person could provide such prophetic and detailed types; especially like the ones we have in the person of Noah.
Noah’s name means "rest". His descendants were given rest in the ark and once the flood waters receded, they rested on dry land. Jesus Christ came to give the weary believers rest. No other person, but the Son of God, continually asks for our burdens and desires to give us rest.
In a time of rampant ungodliness, Noah was a righteous man and his line was undefiled by the Nephilim. It did not matter to Noah that the rest of the world was sinning in an unrepentant and defiant manner. He followed and trusted God. Jesus Christ did the same. Our Lord and Savior walked the Earth while sin abounded. It can be debated which was worse, defiant sin or self-righteous sin, but at any rate, Jesus and Noah were righteous men while the vast majority of people did not care about the truth of God.
Lastly, Noah walked with God and was obedient to Him - even when others laughed at him and would not help him build the ark. Noah still obeyed the One he knew was right. Jesus Christ loved His Father, obeyed and followed Him - even to death. Others laughed and mocked Jesus, also, but this did not stop Him from obeying the Holy One.
