Devotion (Listen) America's Foundation A Moment of Introspection JCSM's Challenge Word of the Week SAB: Corrected and Explained Quotes of the Week

This is the Weekly Devotional Message from

Jesus Christ Saves Ministries

http://www.jcsm.org

Hello!

I hope you had a great weekend.

I'm getting rid of my AOL account.  Their 9.0 version is terribly slow and a memory hog.  I was having my JCSM email forwarded to my AOL account, so you shouldn't notice any difference.  You can contact us at http://jcsm.org/contact.php.

Have you been watching the California recall news?  It has been quite interesting!  Please pray for the people of California.  We need an honest, moral leader as Governor.

I'm still campaigning as a "minor candidate," and I've decided to endorse Tom McClintock as the best, major candidate.  I've even gotten several of the gubernatorial candidates to endorse him, too.  He's the only pro-life, anti-tax candidate higher than 15% in the polls.  Plus, in last week's debate, Tom revealed that he was clearly the most qualified candidate for the job.  If I don't win, let's pray he does!  You can see my campaign site here: http://jasongastrich.com.

This is your ministry, so please feel free to link to JCSM and forward these devotions to your friends and family. On JCSM, there are over 50,000 web pages of pictures, forums, midis, Bible lessons, humor, proverbial stories, links, devotions, poetry, prayer journals, and much more!

JCSM has encouraging sermons, exciting debates, and the Bible on MP3 online and you can freely stream and download them!  Come and listen at http://sa.jcsm.org.

Did you know that JCSM has its very own forum? We also have over 190 members posting messages! If you’d like to read some interesting posts and/or post some messages, please surf to http://forum.jcsm.org.

If you consider yourself either a theological scholar, a seeker, or a student of the Word, then you'll enjoy the Inerrancy Discussion Board.  It's the #1 place for discussing the inerrancy of God's Word!  Come and see: http://www.inerrancy.com (the Inerrancy Discussion Board is sponsored and administrated by JCSM).

Would you like to support God’s work on the web? If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to JCSM. You can join us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Either email me for more information or simply go here: http://vision.jcsm.org.

Visit the JCSM Study Center!  We have over 450mb of resources like English and foreign Bibles, maps, ancient literature, commentaries, Greek and Hebrew dictionaries, and concordances and much more!  Plus, it's all free.  Link: http://study.jcsm.org.

Welcome to the new readers of this message! Here is your Devotion, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained," and the Quotes of the Week. Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason Gastrich, B.A., M.A.B.T.

"Humility vs. Pride"

Proverb 16:18 "Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall."

Proverb 8:13 "The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate."

Proverb 11:2 "When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom."

Proverb 13:10 "By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom."

Proverb 29:23 "A man's pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor."

James 4:10  "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up."

1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world."

Insight: Pride separates us from God because it demands our own way and not His.  Being humble is a good way to do God's will.  Meekness (power under control) is also an essential quality.  Seek to be humble and avoid pride.

Prayer: "Thank you for helping us, Lord.  Thank you for wanting us to be wise, humble, and meek.  Remind us of Jesus Christ and His, perfect example.  Forgive us for being prideful.  Remind us of the destruction that comes from pride.  Let us be your clay and cause us to be moldable.  Thank you for wanting to take the time to mold and shape us into your image.  Help us to submit to your perfect will and avoid fighting You.  To You be all the glory, honor, and praise.  In Jesus' name, Amen."

America's Foundation

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was the 16th President of the United States.

"That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular . . . I do not think I could, myself, be brought to support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, and scoffer at religion." - "The Illinois Gazette," August 15, 1846

"I sincerely hope father may recover his health; but at all events tell him to remember to call upon and confide in our great and good and merciful maker, who will not turn away from him in any extremity.  He notes the fall of a sparrow and numbers the hairs of our head, and He will not forget the dying man who puts his trust in Him." - from a letter to his step-brother, in 1851, concerning the illness of their father

"The will of God prevails.  In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God . . . one must be wrong.  God can not be for and against the same thing at the same time." - "Meditation on the Divine Will," 1862

A Moment of Introspection

If having pride is saying "no" to God, then having humility is saying "yes" to Him.  Open your heart and accept God's lead in your life.

Too often, Christians force their will into existence.  The qualities of strength and determination are fine.  However, we should always be sensitive to God's will and serving Him, first.

JCSM's Challenge

Ask God to give you more humility.  We all have a dose of pride in our lives.  We need to be humble and seek God's will.

God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!

Word of the Week

humble (Hebrew) aniy: depressed in mind or circumstances, afflicted, needy, lowly, poor

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:

Genesis 4:19, 23 - Lamech is the first of a long line of biblical men with more than one wife. It seems that God approves of such marriages.

"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:

Simply because Lamech took more than one wife, this doesn't not mean that God approved.  There are different literary devices in the Bible.  Some of it is poetry, some is historical narrative, etc.  It is not simply a list of commands, it is also an account of human behavior.

(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich.  This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.)

Quotes of the Week

There are no new quotes this week, but we have thousands in our archives!  They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.

These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of the quotes are humorous or rhetorical, others are written from sermons and Bible studies, and some are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.

Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!

Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!

Do you want to help people receive the good news?  We’re reaching new people every day with God’s awesome Word! If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to JCSM, please send your gift to the address below.

You can join our vision and help this ministry! Your donations will keep these ministries running and further our visions for evangelism. Hundreds of web pages have been created to lead people to the Lord. Frequently, we make new ones and they are used to bring more and more people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. We’re certain there will be more ways to reach people in the future.

Along with getting support, we also give support! JCSM regularly gives to churches, Christian ministries and needy people. Another function of this ministry is to do counseling. We are always answering questions about life, the Lord and everything in between. Lastly, we do a lot of research on religious topics on the internet and library. You will definitely see the results of our hard work and your loving support, in the web pages, and in the weekly devotions!
