Hello!
I pray you had a great weekend.
Have you visited JCSM, lately? The main site just got a facelift! It is much better than the old one because it has more links, more descriptions and a better overall "feel". Over the next month or two, I'll be updating the other pages as well, so come and see!
The JCSM internship training is going very well. In fact, if you still want to join us, you may. We are meeting on Tuesdays at 3:30pm PST. We have already covered forum ministry, search engine submission and much more. This week, we will be covering chat room ministry and some other, related things. If you'd like to join us, please email or IM me or visit the following page and fill out the questionnaire. I'd be happy to meet and train you. Link: http://www.jcsm.org/Contents/Internship.htm.
Would you like to see my debate about Isaiah 53? Right now, I'm debating a "liberal theist" on the issue of biblical prophecy. He thinks there aren't any in the Bible, so I'm showing him how Isaiah 53 refers to Jesus Christ. I've posted about 20 pages on the subject, so if you're interested in seeing our exchanges, please visit http://tweb1.jcsm.org. In case you don't like reading debates, I'll be creating a web page on Isaiah 53, soon.
Recently, I debated an atheist named Doug Krueger. He is a professor in Arkansas and he has written a book on atheism. This debate lasted about 90 minutes and we discussed Doug's "top four" reasons for unbelief. I rebutted each of his points and explained why they were untenable and inappropriate.
If you'd like to hear this debate and discover how I defended belief in God and the scriptures, please go to http://sa.jcsm.org. I've also recorded and uploaded a 20 minute "Closing Statement" which is a continued rebuttal of Doug's points. You can find both of these on the web site I just mentioned.
This week, I'm finishing a two week lesson on my book, The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained, to my Bible study group. Please pray it goes well. They seemed to genuinely enjoy the first lesson. You can see this book here: http://skepticsannotatedbible.org.
I hope that you trust Christ and get to know Him better. He will give you success and blessings as you do His perfect and holy will.
Come and see "The Scripture Alphabet of Animals"! This web page has a list of biblical animals and tells about them and where they are found in the scriptures. Link: http://www.jcsm.org/kjv/animals/index.htm.
Would you prayerfully consider supporting JCSM with $5 per month? If God leads you to take this step of faith and bless this ministry, PayPal will process a donation subscription for you. It will only take a minute and you can join us in this dynamic ministry that constantly reaches people all over the world. Here is the link for $5 donations: Click here!
This is your ministry, so please feel free to link to JCSM and forward these devotions to your friends and family. On the JCSM website, there are over 5000 links (pictures, forums, midis, Bible lessons, humor, proverbial stories, links, devotions, poetry, prayer journals and much more!) and it has registered over 124,000 visits!
JCSM has encouraging sermons, exciting debates and the Bible on MP3 online and you can freely stream and download them! Come and listen at http://sa.jcsm.org.
Did you know that JCSM has it’s very own forum? We also have over 160 members posting messages! If you’d like to read some interesting posts and/or post some messages, please surf to http://forum.jcsm.org.
Would you like to support God’s work on the web? If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to JCSM. You can join us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Either email me for more information or simply go here: http://vision.jcsm.org.
Visit The JCSM Study Center! We have over 400mb of resources like English and foreign Bibles, maps, commentaries, Greek and Hebrew dictionaries and concordances and much more! Plus, it's all free. Link: http://study.jcsm.org.
Welcome to the new readers of this message! Here are the Devotions, A Moment of Introspection, JCSM's Challenge, the Hebrew Bible Word of the Week, a faith-builder from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" and the Quotes of the Week. Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

The Weekly Devotional Message
Day 1: "Rejoice In the Lord"
Psalm 33:1 "Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful."
Psalm 68:3, 4 "But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God; yes, let them rejoice exceedingly. Sing to God, sing praises to His name; extol Him who rides on the clouds, by His name Yah, and rejoice before Him."
Psalm 97:12 "Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name."
Isaiah 61:10 "I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."
Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
Insight: We shouldn't always be the "solemn saints" or the "suffering servants." We need to spend some time rejoicing in the Lord! If it's difficult for you to rejoice, then consider the awesome things God has done.
Prayer: "Thank you for wanting us to rejoice. Thank you for giving us so many things to rejoice about! Bless us and give us joy, Lord. Thank you for being a good God and greater than all others. Thank you for saving us from the penalty of sin. Remind us that we are saved and on the road to Heaven. Thank you for the way that You have changed our lives! Let us always be thankful for the awesome works You have done; in us, in others and all over the world. Thanks for all of our simple and ordinary blessings, too. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 2: "We Belong to Him"
Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."
John 10:28, 29 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand."
Romans 8:38, 29 "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Philippians 3:20 "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself."
Insight: Believers can rest in the knowledge that they belong to God. If you have repented from your sins and trusted Christ, you are God's and He will not let you go.
Prayer: "Thank you for loving us so much, Lord. Thank you for refusing to let us go. Help us understand the depths of your love. Thank you for wanting to bless us and help us. Forgive us for running from You. Forgive our pride and foolishness. Remind us that You hold the keys to wisdom and life. Give us great faith in You and love for You and others. Remove our worries and fears. Praise You for being Almighty God with the peace that passes all understand. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 3: "Jesus, Our Comforter"
Psalm 23:4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
Psalm 94:19 "In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul."
Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
Romans 15:4 "For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope."
2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
Insight: Do you need comfort and rest? There is One who craves our burdens. Give them to God and be refreshed.
Prayer: "Thank you for wanting our burdens! Thank you for giving us an easy yoke. Bless us and remind us why You made us. Thank you for your presence, Lord. Thank you for the huge and awesome love that You give to us. Bless us and help us to see You more clearly. Thank you for comforting the ones that hurt and ache. Let people have the humility and meekness to reach to You for comfort, healing, rest and refreshment. Thank you for being a very deep well that never runs dry. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 4: "My Refuge"
Deuteronomy 33:27 "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, ‘Destroy!’"
2 Samuel 22:31-33 "As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. 'For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect."
Psalm 18:2, 3 "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies."
Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Psalm 91:1-6 "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.' Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday."
Nahum 1:7 "The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him."
Hebrews 6:17, 18 "Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us."
Insight: Throughout time, people have proclaimed God's faithfulness and appreciated this quality above many others. Remember that God is your refuge and He is truly faithful.
Prayer: "Praise You for your faithfulness! Thank you for being here for me all of the time. Thank you for never leaving. Help me understand how I have a great and awesome friend in You. Thank you for always listening and even giving me wise and perfect advice. Give me discernment. Let me read your Word and apply those principles to my prayer life. Thank you for being a good God and consistent with your Word. Increase our understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 5: "Be Kind to One Another"
Romans 12:9-13 "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality."
Ephesians 4:32 "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."
1 Corinthians 13:4a "Love suffers long and is kind."
Colossians 3:12-13 "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."
1 Peter 2:5-7 "But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love."
Insight: If you can recall some of the times that people were kind to you, then you'll remember why it's very important to be kind to others.
Prayer: "Thank you for the people who have shown kindness to us. Thank you for the ones that have put our needs above their own. Bless them and give them great things. Help us to be loving and kind. Forgive us for being selfish. Thank you for giving us your Holy Spirit to help and convict us to righteousness. Increase our kindness and let others see You through us. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 6: "Names of God"
Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 40:28 "Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable."
Isaiah 47:4 "As for our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel."
John 6:35 "And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."
John 8:12 "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'"
John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."
John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Revelation 1:8 "'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,' says the Lord, 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'"
Revelation 19:6
"And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."
Insight: God has many names because humans have tried to describe Him in many ways. Since He is above our thoughts, minds and imaginations, all of our names inevitably fall short. Nonetheless, many people have rightly called God by different names that describe His awesome character. For a list of over 150 names of God and where they are found in the scriptures, please see the following site: http://www.jcsm.org/biblelessons/godsnames.htm.
Prayer: "Thank you for being the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings! Thank you for being our Creator and our Father. There is no other God like You. Praise You for being the Prince of Peace! Let us see You as You are and let it humble us. Thank you for giving us awesome things to see that scream your glory and highness. You are the Good Shepherd and the Bread of Life! Without You, we go hungry and needy. Bless us and protect us. We are your sheep and your clay. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 7: "Psalms of Joy"
Psalm 5:11, 12 "But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield."
Psalm 66: 1, 2 "Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; make His praise glorious."
Psalm 81:1, 2 "Sing aloud to God our strength; make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob. Raise a song and strike the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the lute."
Psalm 95:1-3 "Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods."
Psalm 98:4-6 "Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises. Sing to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of a psalm, with trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the LORD, the King."
Psalm 100:1, 2 "Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing."
Insight: Even though he went through many hardships and trials, David still praised God with hymns and poetry. Can you do the same? Find reasons to remain joyful, even in difficult times.
Prayer: "Thank you for the examples of people who were able to be joyful about You and their lives. Help us to share people's joy and not bring them down. Thank you for the ones that have a smile on their face because You have made them glad. Let use have the joy that comes only from You, Lord. Thank you for wanting us to have joy that comes from your deep well of life. Fill us up, Lord. Give us more of You. We want less of us and more of You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
What have you started and not finished?
Some people have no problem saying, "I'll do that!" However, many people also have no problem forgetting their promise or pledge.
I like the following saying: "Mean what you say and say what you mean." Before you say you'll do something, make sure you should do it and make sure you will do it. If you pause and consider these things, then you should have a much easier time starting what you finish.
Finishing what you begin brings a great feeling of accomplishment; whether it is a small task or a large one. Recall the times when you set out to do something and did it well and aim for this level of diligence in all of the areas of your life.
Before you leave church, write one thing that you'll apply to your life.
It's easy to attend church, then leave and forget what the pastor said. Right? Well, if you consider what he said and write something that you will apply to your life, then you'll get more from the sermons.
Becoming like Christ is a process. It doesn't happen by choice. It happens when you decide to make changes and do things differently.
Taking notes in church is a wise thing to do. If you attend a good church, then there should be numerous, noteworthy things being said. Simply get a pen and paper and write them down (and at least write one thing that you will apply to your life).
God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!
The Hebrew Bible Word of the Week
transgression: pesha - revolt (national, moral or religious), rebellion, sin
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible" claims:
2:7, 18-22 - In the first creation story, God
makes humans (male and female) after the other animals; in the second, God makes
a man first, then the other animals, and then a woman.
But humans were not created instantaneously from dust and breath as in the
Gen.2:7, but evolved over millions of years from simpler life forms.
"The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained" responds:
* The Hebrew word for "formed" could also be translated "had formed". "God had formed man from the dust of the ground." The second chapter of Genesis isn't a chronology of events. It is a highlighting of certain events from the creation week.
* The evolution of species has not been proven. Even Charles Darwin said, "Millions of intermediary fossils need to be found in order for my theory of the evolution of species to have legitimacy" (paraphrase). This was spoken in the 1800's and in 2002, we still haven't found anywhere close to this number of fossils that could be even remotely considered "intermediary fossils". Once again, even from the few, potential, intermediary fossils, the only thing scientists can tell is that the animal died - not that it had kids and surely not that it's descendants were of a different species.
(This explanation came from "The Skeptic's Annotated Bible: Corrected and Explained", by Jason Gastrich. This book is on CD and explains over 3,000 difficulties regarding the entire Bible at http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.org.)
A lot of people don't know how to work.
Some people have good work ethics, but some don't.
Some work is better than other work.
It's better to earn eternal riches than temporary riches.
Some people are so lazy they don't even realize it.
God is the best worker, so imitate Him.
God said it, He did it, then He said it was good (as He reviewed His work). This is a great example for us.
God can do your job better than you can.
Ask God how to do your job better.
God made the functions that keep us alive and put them in a place in our brain where we could not access them (like digestion, heartbeat, etc.).
Get God's thoughts.
Get godly counsel.
What have you started and not finished?
Before you leave church, write one thing that you'll apply to your life.
Work diligently.
Diligent, godly people can handle riches.
Failure is being disobedient to God.
Go to work looking for something to do.
Once you start something, keep doing it until God tells you to stop.
Many dreams require a step of faith.
These quotes came from God, me and Miles McPhearson.
Do you need more quotes? We have thousands in our archives! They are located here: http://quotes.jcsm.org.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of my quotes are humorous or rhetorical. Some are written from sermons and Bible studies. Others are lyrics from songs. If you’d like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I’ve written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don’t sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be written religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the readers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
