Hello!
Wham, bam, here you go, sir or ma'am! Here's this week's dose of encouragement and truth......right in your email!
Sunday night, I heard Dr. Josh McDowell speak at Shadow Mountain Community Church. He gave us an awesome sermon on the Bible's authenticity. You can read about it in my quotes and on the new site I made. "The Bible is Phenomenally Unique" is a site I created from Josh's new book, "New Evidence That Demands A Verdict". Here it is: http://www.jcsm.org/biblelessons/BibleisUnique.htm
Please pray for the 200 people in Azerbaijan who received the gospel. We found their email addresses and sent them the good news. This is a country that is persecuting Christians, so they need all kinds of prayer.
I pray that you are experiencing God's blessings in your life. Keep on the straight and narrow path! There's no better place on Earth than the road that leads to Heaven.
Do you have outdated shortcuts in your start-up menu? Does your computer need some cleaning? If so, there's a free download you should try. I've used this cleaner and it has made my computer run better. It takes a few seconds to download and you can get it here: http://members.tripod.com/~Jesus_Christ_Saves/clean11.zip.
If you haven't seen the Earth from a satellite, you'll want to see the next site. It's an actual picture of the Earth at night. Here's the link: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0011/earthlights_dmsp_big.jpg.
Thanks for visiting our web site, sharing it with others and praying for JCSM. In the month of August, we received over 2100 hits and an average of 68 visits per day! Praise the Lord for this growth.
Is smoking a problem in your city or country? Smoking is slowly declining in the United States, but it's still killing thousands of people. Please pray that smoking is eradicated. Here is our web page on smoking: http://www.jcsm.org/biblelessons/smoking.htm.
If you ever need inexpensive books, you should visit Allbookstores.com. This site will search about 20 online book sellers and give you all the prices their charging for a certain book! It will find used and new books. If you need books, try http://www.allbookstores.com.
Have you read your church's statement of faith? Do you know what they believe about the trinity? Many religious movements and people are denying the trinity. For more on the trinity, please go here: http://www.gospelcom.net/apologeticsindex/t10.html.
Monday, I'll be hearing Switchfoot perform at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa! They'll be playing about 7:15pm. If you're in the area, come and check it out!
Last week, I bought two, awesome, Christian albums. Skillet and Kevin Max have released some great music. Skillet sounds like their old self, with new licks, lyrics and loops. Kevin Max's solo project is a talented and poetic effort that's worth hearing.
Thanks to my wife Sarine, we just added over 4000 new names to our mailing list! She worked hard to add these names, spending hours of work on the web. Praise the Lord because we are now sending to over 26,000 people on the web!
Are you receiving about twelve pages with this message? If this message is truncated, and perhaps you're only receiving half of it, you can always find these devotions on our web site! Simply go here: http://devos.jcsm.org.
This is your ministry, so please feel free to link to JCSM and forward these devotions to your friends and family. On the JCSM website, there are over 1500 links (pictures, midis, Bible lessons, humor, proverbial stories, links, devotions, poetry, prayer journals and much more!) and it has registered over 53,000 hits!
Would you like to support God's work on the web? If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to JCSM. You can join us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Please email me or see our address below.
Welcome to the recipients of this message! Here are the devotions, challenge, moment of introspection, the Bible word of the week, the Bible trivia question, last week's trivia answer, an excerpt from "The Revised and Expanded Answers Book" and the quotations for the week. Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

The Weekly Devotional Message
Day 1: "Obey God's Command to Judge"
John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."
1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
2 Peter 2:1, 2 "But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
1 Corinthians 14:29 "Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge."
1 Corinthians 5:12, 13 "For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore put away from yourselves the evil person."
1 Corinthians 10:15 "I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say."
1 Thessalonians 5:21 "Test all things; hold fast what is good."
Acts 17:11 "These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."
Prayer: "Thank you for wanting to make righteous judgements. Help us to understand the truth in your Word. Thank you for giving us an awesome source of truth that has no other rivals. Your Word is the best. Let us be the judges You want us to be. Let us interpret scriptures correctly and not hide from them. Forgive the people who have misinterpreted the Bible and become weak Christians. Thank you for the great teachers and theologians that have taught us correctly! Let us investigate the teachings of so-called believers and discover if they're telling the truth or not. Guide us with your Spirit. Help us to know your Word and listen to you. Give us boldness and love to make the judgements You require us to make. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 2: "We Are All Ministers"
2 Timothy 4:2, 5 "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
1 Peter 4:10, 11 "As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."
Hebrews 6:10 "For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister."
2 Corinthians 3:6 "He made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
Prayer: "Thank you for making us all ministers of your Word. Remind all Christians that they have a duty to spread the good news. Help every believer to find a Christian ministry where they can serve You. Forgive the ones who only occupy a seat at church and do nothing more. Show them that You are worth wholehearted devotion. Touch them and lift them up. Praise You for being so good and doing incredible things all the time. Open the eyes of more people, so they can understand what is happening. Bless us, increase our ministries, lay your hand on us and keep us from evil. To You be all the glory! In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 3: "Fight and Run"
2 Timothy 4:7, 8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing."
Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
2 Timothy 2:22 "Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
Prayer: "Thank you for wanting us to fight and run. Give us the wisdom to know what to do and when to do it. Thank you for giving us great, spiritual strength! Thank you for helping us to 'pick our battles', too. Show us where we need to get involved and where we need to leave. Show us the emails that should be written and the emails that need not be written. Praise You for knowing everything and helping us. Praise You for your faithfulness! There is no other God like You. Help all the saints to grow spiritually. Let us grow in the knowledge of You, Lord. Praise You for giving us the internet to spread the good news! Build your army of believers, Lord. Make us fearless and prepare us for the future. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 4: "The Final Sacrifice"
John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends."
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Hebrews 10:12-14 "But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."
1 John 3:16 "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."
Prayer: "Thank you for dying for our sins, Jesus! There's no other God like You. Thank you for willingly, lovingly dying for us. Help us to fathom what You did. Help us to understand your eternal sacrifice that transcends time and human understanding. Praise You for being almighty God! Praise You for giving us a place called Heaven to live for eternity! Thank you for helping us cope with life on Earth. Let us put things in proper perspective, Lord. Thank you for holding our hand and touching our life. You are the biggest, best God ever. Let us love You and worship You more! We need You, Lord. Increase our faith and devotion to You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 5: "Eyewitnesses"
Acts 2:22 "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know."
2 Peter 1:16 "For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty."
1 John 1:1-4 "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life - the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us - that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full."
John 20:30 "And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book."
Acts 1:1-3 "The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God."
John 20:29 "Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
Luke 1:1-4 "Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed."
Prayer: "Thank you for the people who saw what You did, Lord. Thank you for the people who were unashamed to tell the world what You did. Let us be just as bold. Increase our strength. Thank you for making all believers eyewitnesses of your love and power. Help us to remember what You do and share it with others. Thank you for the times in the Bible where people saw what You did and were so touched and so excited that they had to tell people! Remind the lukewarm ones how they were when they were close to You. Lift us up, Lord. Praise You for making this life with You so awesome! Thank you that the Bible has been kept for so long and it hasn't been changed or anything. Thank you that there is so much proof of the truth of the Bible. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 6: "Purify Your Heart"
James 4:8 "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
Titus 2:13, 14 "Look for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works."
1 Thessalonians 5:23 "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Peter 1:22, 23 "Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever."
Prayer: "Purify us, Lord. Forgive us for our sins. Remind us that we need You every day. Help us to be disciplined enough to pray to You, worship You and read your Word each day. Thank you for having mercy on us when we mess up. Give us great self-control and let us hold ourselves to a high standard. Thank You, God, for loving us so much. There's no other God like You! Thank you for showing us our sins and providing a way to repent and overcome them. Thank you for making people completely different than they were before they knew You. Thank you for never making a person worse than they were when they met You. Let us see You and be purified, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."
Day 7: "Righteousness"
Proverb 11:8 "The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead."
Hosea 10:12 "Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you."
Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled."
Romans 1:17 "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, The just shall live by faith."
2 Corinthians 5:21 "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
Philippians 1:9-11 "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."
1 Timothy 6:11 "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness."
James 3:17, 18 "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."
Prayer: "Thank you for being the Righteous One. Thank you for making our righteousness look like filthy rags. Let us be righteous like You. Thank you for loving us very much, even though we aren't perfect. Help us to be more and more righteous each day. Help us to leave fleshly lusts and earthly desires. Thank you for showing us how to be righteous. Thank you for giving Christians a way to be godly. Let us cling to your Word and be sensitive to your Spirit. Let us go back to the basics. Thank you for making the Christian life exciting and great! Remind us that truth does not change, your laws do not change and You are still the same. Help us to strive for the standard You set long ago. Remind us that You will be here to help and You will provide encouragement for us along the way. Help us to accept the sources of encouragement that You give us. Let us be humble and Christ-like. To You be all the glory, honor and praise, forever and ever! In Jesus' name, Amen."
Challenge
Read some of the Old Testament. There is no other book like God's Word. To understand where we are and where we are going, it helps to understand our past.
The history in the Bible is rich and full of interesting details. Not only is reading God's Word important, reading about His sovereignty since the beginning of time is awesome. God bless you as you meet this week's challenge!
A Moment of Introspection
If the resurrection of Christ was a lie, His 12 disciples would have known it and never died martyr's deaths.
It is obvious that a person wouldn't die for something he or she knew was a lie. Nobody would be that foolish. However, I recently realized that if Christ's resurrection was a lie, His disciples would have definitely known. This poses a problem for the people who don't believe Jesus rose from the dead.
11 of the 12 disciples died terrible, martyr's deaths. They were crucified, boiled in oil, beheaded, etc. John died in exile. None of these men denied their faith in Christ. Wouldn't it have been wise to deny their faith and live a normal life? And die a normal death?
The only conclusion is that these men actually walked and talked with the living God, Jesus Christ. There's no way that they would have died for a lie. There's no way that they would have kept the faith through crucifixion or beheading. They knew Jesus Christ, they knew who He was, they saw Him for 40 days after His resurrection and they would not deny what they knew was true.

How Did Fish Survive the Flood?
Saltwater/Freshwater Adaptation in Fish Today
Many of today's marine organisms, especially estuarine and tidepool species, are able to survive large changes in salinity. For example, starfish will tolerate as low as 16-18 percent of the normal concentration of sea salt indefinitely. Barnacles can withstand exposure to less than one-tenth the usual salt concentration of seawater.
There are migratory species of fish that travel between salt and fresh water. For example, salmon, striped bass, and Atlantic sturgeon spawn in fresh water and mature in salt water. Eels reproduce in salt water and grow to maturity in fresh water streams and lakes. So, many of today's species of fish are able to adjust to both fresh water and salt water.
There is also evidence of post-flood specialization within a kind of fish. For example, the Atlantic sturgeon is a migratory salt/freshwater species but the Siberian sturgeon (a different species of the same kind) lives only in fresh water.
Many families of fish contain both fresh and saltwater species. These include the families of toadfish, garpike, bowfin, sturgeon, herring/anchovy, salmon/trout/pike, catfish, clingfish, stickleback, scorpionfish, and flatfish. Indeed, most of the families alive today have both fresh and saltwater representatives. This suggests that the ability to tolerate large changes in salinity was present in most fish at the time of the flood. Specialization, through natural selection, may have resulted in the loss of this ability in many species since then.
Hybrids of wild trout (fresh water) and farmed salmon (migratory species) have been
discovered in Scotland, suggesting that the differences between freshwater and marine types
may be quite minor. Indeed, the differences in physiology seem to be largely differences in
degree rather than kind.
The kidneys of freshwater species excrete excess water (the urine has low salt concentration)
and those of marine species excrete excess salt (the urine has high salt concentration).
Saltwater sharks have high concentrations of urea in the blood to retain water in the saltwater
environment whereas freshwater sharks have low concentrations of urea to avoid
accumulation water. When sawfish move from salt water to fresh water they increase their
urine output 20 fold, and their blood urea concentration decreases to less than one-third.
Major public aquariums use the ability of fish to adapt to water of different salinity from their
normal habitat to exhibit freshwater and saltwater species together. The fish can adapt if the
salinity is changed slowly enough.
So, many fish species today have the capacity to adapt to both fresh and salt water within
their own lifetimes.
Aquatic air-breathing mammals such as whales and dolphins would have been better places
than many fish to survive the flood, not being dependent on clean water to obtain their oxygen.
Many marine creatures would have been killed in the flood because of the turbidity of the
water, changes in temperature, etc. The fossil record testifies to the massive destruction of
marine life, with marine creatures accounting for 95 percent of the fossil record. Some, such
as trilobites and ichthyosaurs, probably became extinct at that time. This is consistent with the
Bible account of the flood beginning with the breaking up of the "fountains of the great deep"
(i.e., beginning in the sea; "the great deep" means the oceans).
There is also a possibility that stable fresh and saltwater layers developed and persisted in
some parts of the ocean. Fresh water can sit on top of salt water for extended periods of time.
Turbulence may have been sufficiently low at high latitudes for such layering to persist and
allow the survival of both freshwater and saltwater species in those areas.
The Quotations of the Week
None of God's laws are arbitrary.
Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way you expect.
God is probably waiting for someone ignorant enough of the impossible to do that very thing.
Has reading God's Word ever put a silly, happy smile on your face?
God wants you to be one of His soldiers.
God wants to take us from fear to faith.
Satan wants to take as many people as he can into sin.
Either the Bible is the most incredibly, misinterpreted, complicated, falsified, coincidental, contrived and deceptive book ever written or it is the legitimate Word of God.
Satan wanted to murder Jesus and he wants to do the same thing with you.
Did you know that the gospel is written in the sky?
Fearful people can be lured into sin.
Remember, when you walk by faith, you go places that those who don't walk by faith can't go!
If we obey them, God's rules help us to be happy.
The same words spoken by the opposite sex could receive a different response from the same listener.
If I'm going to be more committed to Christ, what do I need to stop doing? What do I need to start doing?
Trust in God early and often.
Practice viewing things in light of eternity.
Start and finish your day in prayer.
God wouldn't tell us to do something that was impossible.
Eternal life in Heaven is the most incredible after-life promise ever offered.
People who insist on using words haphazardly shouldn't be in a position where they have to use a lot of words.
Jesus' blood was the last blood sacrifice that had to be shed for our sins.
Some people rather die than think.
Christians need biblically and historically accurate information for why they believe.
When godly people speak, open your heart and mind.
Truth never changes, but your perspective of it can.
There are over 24,000 manuscripts that prove the New Testament is true and was written 2,000 years ago.
Homer's Iliad is the 2nd most proven, authentic book with under 700 manuscripts.
With copies of quotations form the early church fathers, all but 11 verses of the New Testament can be reconstructed.
If we were to authenticate the Bible's in the same way we authenticate ancient, secular documents, the Bible is overwhelmingly, completely true.
The evidence for Christianity is sufficient, but not exhaustive.
Directly after His crucifixion, resurrection and ascension, Jesus' disciples would have never preached in Jerusalem if it didn't happen.
If the resurrection of Christ was a lie, His 12 disciples would have known it and never died martyr's deaths.
A lot of people have died for a lie, but they thought it was the truth.
The odds of the disciples dying martyr's deaths, for something that was a lie, and never denying Christ may be less likely than the resurrection.
Andre Cole, the greatest illusionist of all time, had never been fooled by another illusion and found the story of Christ to be irrefutably true.
The nation of Israel is not the suffering Messiah.
The Jews were looking for a political Messiah, so they didn't understand the scriptures about the suffering Messiah that died for their sins.
The heart is the center of the spiritual life.
If the fruit of a tree is bad, you don't try to fix the fruit; you treat the roots. If a person's actions are evil, it's not enough to change habits; you have to go deeper.
Clean the refinery and the result will be a pure product.
If we open our hearts to ungodly values, we will produce bad fruit.
Selfishness doesn't belong in Christian hearts.
Bear lasting fruit for God's kingdom.
In which area of your life do you need to experience God's purifying work?
God is 100 pounds of holiness in a 10 pound bag.
Strive for Christ's righteousness and if you can't have it (on Earth), at least you can come close.
These quotes came from God, me, the Inspirational Study Bible (with Max Lucado), Tyrone Moore, Bret Welshymer, Dr. David Jeremiah and Dr. Josh McDowell.
These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of my quotes are humorous or rhetorical. Some are written from sermons and Bible studies. Others are lyrics from songs. If you'd like me to go into more detail on any of them, please email me.
Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I've written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don't sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!
Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please at least pray that the devotions continue to be sent religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the subscribers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!
