Hello!

I pray you had a great week and weekend.

Jesus is coming soon! This message won't tell you when, but it will definitely encourage you while you wait!

Election day is today! Please go to the polls and vote! If you are uncertain about Bush and Gore's political viewpoints, please see the Christian Coalition's voting guide, here http://www.cc.org

My vote is for George W. Bush. He is the opposite of Gore on each of these issues: education choice for parents - vouchers (Bush supports, Gore opposes), unrestricted abortion on demand (Bush opposes, Gore supports), increased taxes on coal and oil (Bush opposes, Gore supports), elimination of the marriage and death penalty taxes (Bush supports, Gore opposes), public financing of abortions (Bush opposes, Gore supports) and banning partial birth abortions (Bush supports, Gore opposes). These are just a few of the important issues they differ on.

Yesterday, I watched the Left Behind movie! It was awesome. I recommend it because it was informative and interesting. This movie is about the world right before and after the rapture. It was inspired directly from the popular Left Behind book series. It is available on video, now, and in the theaters in February. Kirk Cameron is the star reporter, but I won't give anything more away.

Please pray for my chat room ministry and ministry in general. I've gotten an AOL TOS warning and violation, so I'm being very careful about how I minister. I'm disappointed that AOL isn't supporting me as I send the gospel, but I'm considering this trial pure joy as scripture says to do. Nonetheless, I've realized I need to start moving my ministry to another server where they're not threatening to close my account. Please pray that I have wisdom as I do this.

After a brief hiatus (it's only been a couple weeks, but I had to use that word), I'm returning to the YDI youth crisis hotline! Please pray that I give wise counsel to the hurting people who call. I'll be answering the hotline on Tuesday afternoons.

Thank you for praying for my guitar student, Wyatt. He's making fantastic progress! I was very impressed at his work ethic and improvement. I've received three more guitar students, too! I pray I can enjoy my time with all of them.

The International Church Directory is growing! It has listings for 26 different churches. If you haven't told us about yours, please do! The world wants to know where you worship and details about your church.

My fast is going very well! Thank you for your prayers. I've you'd like to see my journals, please go here: http://www.jcsm.org/Fasting/Days1-10.htm

Today is Day 30 of my 40 day fast. I'm thankful for the time I've had with God. I've learned some awesome things. I've also been inspired to persevere with my music and web ministry, go to the Grand Canyon this week and many more things. It's been a time of testing and refining, too. God is purifying me for His work. Praise the Lord. I'll keep seeking Him, loving Him and watching for what's next.

Please pray for my trip to the Grand Canyon. I'm really excited about the chance to see this enormous hole in the ground, again. There may or may not be snow (the forecast keeps changing). It will be a brief trip, as I leave Wednesday and return Friday. However, I can hardly wait to sing and hear from God as I drive a total of 1100 miles!

As much as I like to be alone with Him here, it's not always easy. I have many things calling to me, such as work, the internet, friends, responsibilities, church, Bible studies, etc. These things are all great, but I need to get away and focus on God more completely. Please pray for my safety and sanctification.

Would you like some smooth, online, jazz music? I've found some here www.Jazz88.org

Last month, my web site had the most hits it has gotten in the last 6 months. October logged 1500 hits! Please pray that these numbers continue to grow. Another encouraging number is 1200. This is how many people have been added to my list for devotions in the last month! Praise the Lord for this growth!

Please visit my web page! There's over 1500 links (pictures, midis, Bible lessons, humor, proverbial stories, links, devotions, poetry, prayer journals and much more!) and it has registered over 37,650 hits!

If this ministry has touched you in a special way, please pray and consider sending a gift to Jesus Christ Saves Ministries. On the web, we're encouraging the believers and sharing the gospel with unbelievers. I'm also doing counseling on a regular basis. As I do full-time ministry on the web, love and help others, I never charge them anything for my time or services.

Would you like to support God's work on the web? You can become a Super Supporter of JCSM by sending only $5 a month. You'll be joining us in our vision to reach people on the web with the good news! Of course, a gift of any size will be appreciated! My address and more information is at the bottom of this message.

Welcome to the new screen names or recipients of this message! Here are the devotions, moment of introspection, challenge and quotations for the week. Have a fantastic week and God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Jason J. Gastrich

The Weekly Devotional Message

Day 1: "The Truly Wise One"

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 "Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness'; and again, 'The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.'"

1 Corinthians 1:20-25, 27 "Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;"

Romans 16:25 "To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen."

James 1:5, 6 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind."

Prayer: "Thank you for being so wise, Lord! There's nobody who is as wise as You. Give us more wisdom. Let us see things more clearly. Help us to make better decisions. Give us self-control when we need to be silent. Thank you for being faithful to us! There's no other God like You. Increase our faith in You. Bless us and mold us, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 2: "Deny Fleshly Desires"

Galatians 5:16, 17 "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish."

Colossians 3:5-7 "Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them."

Romans 13:12-14 "The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts."

2 Timothy 2:21, 22 "Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."

Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble."

1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Prayer: "Thank you for giving us the strength to deny fleshly desires. Help us to identify them and overcome them. Praise You for giving us your Holy Spirit! There's nothing as powerful as You, Lord. Remind us that we are conquerors. Lift us up and make us strong! Help us see You and what You want for us. Thank you for being with us in our trials. Thank you for always listening to us, too. Remind us that You are near and an ever-present help. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 3: "How Hard Do I Search?"

Proverb 2:1-5 "My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God."

Jeremiah 29:12, 13 "Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."

1 Chronicles 16:11 "Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!"

1 Chronicles 22:19a "Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God."

2 Chronicles 7:14 "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Colossians 3:23, 24 "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."

Prayer: "Thank you for desiring a whole-hearted effort on our part. Forgive us for anything we've done half-heartedly. Remind us that our feet are on a Rock. Remind us that You are watching and we're living for You, not for what we see. Let us seek You and love You with everything we have. Teach us how to run toward You with reckless abandon. Thank you for rewarding sincere seekers! Help us to persevere, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 4: "In the Womb"

Job 10:8-12 "Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me? Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again? Did you not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese, clothe me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews? You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit."

Job 31:15 "Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?"

Psalm 139:13-16 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

Prayer: "Thank you for writing scriptures about knowing us and forming us in the womb! Remind us that You value life - You are the giver and taker of life. Please cause abortions to be stopped, Lord. Bring love and godliness into the world. Let us value the unborn child because You said it has value and belongs to You. Forgive the ones who have had abortions. Heal them and remind them that You still love them. Open our eyes to all the scriptures, Lord, and help us apply them to our lives and the world around us. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 5: "Keep Your Vows"

Numbers 30:2 "If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth."

Ecclesiastes 5:4, 5 "When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed - Better not to vow than to vow and not pay."

Judges 11:30-32, 34, 35 "And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and said, 'If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands, then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.' So Jephthah advanced toward the people of Ammon to fight against them, and the LORD delivered them into his hands. When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with timbrels and dancing; and she was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter. And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, "Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low! You are among those who trouble me! For I have given my word to the LORD, and I cannot go back on it.'"

Prayer: "Thank you for taking vows seriously, Lord. Help us to take our vows seriously, too. Thank you for having so much mercy and patience on people. Forgive all of us who have broken promises. Let us be people of integrity, now. Teach us to tell the truth and wisely consider promises before making them. Cause us to count the cost. Give us strength and determination to keep our promises! Remind us that You never forget. Please find us faithful, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 6: "Lay Your Hands On Me"

2 Timothy 1:6, 7 "Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

Mark 5:23, 24 "'My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.' So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him."

Acts 28:8-10 "And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. They also honored us in many ways; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary."

1 Timothy 5:22 "Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure."

Prayer: "Thank you for the spiritual practice of laying on hands. Show us when we need this and when we need to lay hands on others. Give us the courage to be faithful to You in this area. Thank you for the biblical examples of healing and stimulating spiritual gifts through the laying on of hands. Thank you for the way you've had people encourage and inspire me by having them lay their hands on me and pray. Forgive all the ones who have abused this practice. Show them the truth, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Day 7: "Powerful Peace"

Philippians 4:7 "The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Isaiah 48:18 "Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea."

Proverb 1:33 "But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil."

James 3:18 "Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

Colossians 3:15 "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful."

Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is...peace..."

Ephesians 2:14, 15 "For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace"

2 Thessalonians 3:16 "Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all."

Prayer: "Thank you for your unparalleled peace! Thank you for giving us peace when we ask for it. Remind us that we can have peace like a river, even when our life seems like a monsoon. Praise You for being a God of peace and order. You are an awesome God! Let us pursue peace and love one another deeply. Thank you for wanting us to live in peace, not war. Remove our worries and fears, Lord. Fill us with your awesome peace! Remind us that You are only a simple prayer away. Thank you for never sleeping or forgetting about us. To You be all the glory, honor and praise, forever and ever! In Jesus' name, Amen."

Challenge

Get involved with a ministry or begin your own Christian ministry. We are all required to spread the gospel and minister to others. Different people do this in different ways. Have you brainstormed this subject?

There are countless opportunities for ministry. Here are some ideas: phone counseling, internet ministry (email, chat room, web page, instant message, etc.), printing flyers or tracts and handing them out, wearing Jesus t-shirts, serving in your church, putting Jesus on your vehicle, going on a missions trip, street evangelism, teaching a Bible class, etc.

God bless you as you pray and meet this week's challenge! You won't regret making a difference for Jesus.

A Moment of Introspection

In the New Testament Bible, the laying on of hands imparted power from God and the spiritual gifts. Today, we see the laying on of hands helping to heal, encourage, empower, etc. What is your experience with this subject?

2 Timothy 1:6 reads, "Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands." "Stir up" comes from the Greek word "anazopureo" and it means to rekindle. Apparently, when a godly person lays hands on you and prays, it can stimulate your spiritual gifts.

Some churches claim that the Holy Spirit is given when people have hands laid on them. There are many false movements that are happening, today, because of this perceived phenomena. The Apostles (Jesus' 12 chosen followers) were given this power, but everyone else was not. It's important that we interpret these scriptures correctly.

The Holy Spirit is only given when a person has saving faith in Jesus Christ. However, people from "The Toronto Blessing" and "Brownsville Revival" movements would disagree. I'm not sure if you've researched these groups or not. You can, here: www.apologeticsindex.org

In Matthew 5:23-25 there is an instance of Jesus laying hands on a dying person. They were healed. In Acts 28:8, Paul layed hands on someone and healed them. 1 Timothy 5:22 reads, "Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure."

Apparently, we are to have discernment when we lay hands on people. We should listen to them and make sure we're not just promoting their sin or opinions.

I've had people lay hands on me on several ocassions. Pastors, friends and other godly people have put a hand or two on me and prayed for me. It's always a blessing and a refreshing feeling! I pray we have discernment with the use of this spiritual practice.

These quotes came from God, me, the Inspirational Study Bible (with Max Lucado), The New Student Bible, David R. Smith, Bill Bright, Rebecca St. James, Peter Steel, D.L. Moody, Tyrone Moore and Miles McPhearson.

These quotes can be used for sanctification and fun. Most of them are directly based on scripture and scriptural principles. Some of my quotes are humorous or rhetorical. Some are written from sermons and Bible studies. Others are lyrics from songs. Like most verses in the Bible, they can be debated. To use what I have written in the most beneficial way, try and trace them back to the scriptures they were derived from and apply the true principles to your life in a meaningful way! Please don't sell my quotes or publish them for profit. If English is not your first language, you may not understand some of the quotes. I'm sorry, but some of them are English metaphors and deal with multiple word meanings. God bless you all!

Please make a commitment to pray for this ministry. As every believer is tempted and tried, this ministry faces trials also. God has blessed me, JCSM and the people who have been reached! Unfortunately, the enemy knows this and spiritual warfare is the result. Please, at least pray that the devotions continue to be sent religiously, the web pages stay on the www and the subscribers are blessed, sanctified and protected from evil. Thank you very much in advance!

Do you want to help people receive the good news? I have sent over 500,000 emails, encouraging people with God's Word! Please join me in the great commission. I'm reaching new people every day with God's awesome Word! If God has blessed you and you wish to send a love offering to me and my ministry, please send it to the address below.

You can help this ministry! Your donations will keep my ministries running and they further my visions for evangelism. The internet, the telephone (volunteering time for the Youth Crisis hotline), the guitar, singing and gospel tracts are some ways that I encourage people and lead them to Christ. I'm certain there will be more ways to reach people in the future. Along with getting support, I also give support! I regularly give to my church and frequently give to needy people. Lastly, I do a lot of research on religious topics on the internet and at the library. You will definitely see the results of my work on my web page and in the weekly messages!

For more about me and my service history, go to http://resume.jcsm.org. For what I do, my ministries and giving, go to http://vision.jcsm.org

If you have received these devotions from someone other than I, please email me and I will send them to you, personally, each week. Don't worry, I don't send forwards or any other junk mail. I also refrain from giving your name to anyone. Also, email me if you wish to be removed from this list. If you prefer to receive the devotions in Spanish or French, please email me and I'll send you them each week in either Spanish or French!

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please email me! I would love to share the gospel with you. The Bible is very straightforward when it speaks about Heaven, Hell and eternal life. If there is any doubt that you are going to Heaven when you die, please let me know today!

Are you having trouble in life? Do you need someone to talk to? You can call the youth crisis hotline at 1-800-HIT-HOME, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I'm currently volunteering time for this hotline. Our motto is "help, not hassle". We will listen to you and encourage you. If you are hurting and need someone to talk to, please feel free to call. YDI pays for these calls and has helped over 1 million people! They are also looking for people to answer calls. Their web site is at www.1800hithome.com

Would you like to feed starving people by simply clicking a button and paying absolutely nothing? Sponsors pay to donate food to hungry people all over the world. I click these nearly every day. It takes about 10 seconds and it donates food to needy people! Go here: www.thehungersite.com and here www.stopthehunger.com

JCSM now does regular mailings! If you are getting rid of your email or know someone who wants the devotions, but doesn't have email, please give me their address and we'll send them the devotions. If you don't have internet access, but want to read a certain web page or Bible lesson, let me know. I could copy and paste something into an email message for you.

Since April of 1997, the weekly devotional message has been sent on the internet. This message currently reaches 5318 people in 98 countries. To read a list of these countries, go here: http://www.jcsm.org/misc/countries.htm. To read the archived devotions online, go here: http://devos.jcsm.org.
